"We're thrilled."

--Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue, talking about the Roberts nomination on NPR this morning

And that's all that really needs to be said about that. Though, The Rude Pundit manages a bit more that you should really consider reading:
John Roberts, the Stealth Motherfucker

For surely, siding with Operation Rescue alone qualifies Roberts as a motherfucker, arguing to the Supreme Court that those who block family planning clinics are asserting First Amendment rights and "are perfectly non-discriminatory in their opposition to abortion. They are opposed to abortion, not women." Which, if you follow the logic, could allow you to block access to anal itch cream and say that you're not opposed to entire buttocks, just assholes.

And via Digby, lest we forget:

Ooops

White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove did not disclose that he had ever discussed CIA officer Valerie Plame with Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper during Rove’s first interview with the FBI, according to legal sources with firsthand knowledge of the matter.

The omission by Rove created doubt for federal investigators, almost from the inception of their criminal probe into who leaked Plame's name to columnist Robert Novak, as to whether Rove was withholding crucial information from them, and perhaps even misleading or lying to them, the sources said.

Also leading to the early skepticism of Rove's accounts was the claim that although he first heard that Plame worked for the CIA from a journalist, he said could not recall the name of the journalist. Later, the sources said, Rove wavered even further, saying he was not sure at all where he first heard the information.

Isn't there a word for someone whose story changes from week to week, even day to day? Oh yeah, I think it's "liar".

Are you insinuating that Karl Rove is a big Frenchy Flip Flopper?

Oh yeah, I think it's "liar".

Oh! Oh good. I was worried there for a minute.

I think "santorum" needs to be joined in the New Political Dictionary by "rove". To wit:

rove, (1) v. tr. To roam or wander around, over, or through. (2) v. tr. To stretch and twist (fibers) before spinning; ravel out. (3) v. tr. To omit, stretch, or twist truth before a grand jury; and when confronted by actual truth, to claim wandering and faulty memory. ex. "Stop roving in public, citizen; it's embarrasing." Also see perjury.

Alternate wordings for definition #3 are actively solicited.

(3) v. tr. To attempt to maliciously intimidate or render political opponents harmless using tactics ranging from personal smears to outing of CIA undercover agents. ex. "That senator's political career was definitely over once he got roved." See also traitor.
