Whee! For the first Monday in ages I feel refreshed and awake and ready to face the week. My "me" weekend turned out to be just the recharger I'd hoped for, though I did manage to accomplish quite a bit in addition to lounging around and being a big lump. Go me!

Drove down to South SJ to visit a fabric store where we were all going to purchase our costume fabric for the next troupe outfit. Sadly the fabric we're supposed to use went off sale (originally $2 a yard) and is now $12 a yard. I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much money on it so I'm waiting. Ran the rest of my errands and made it home in time to putter around and do some necessary chores before going to check in on the neighbor's kitties. They're so cute, Phoebe would happily splay across my feet for hours on end if I let her, and Pete is over the moon about the little rattle mice I brought him. The mice are never in the same place twice so I know he's having fun playing with them.

Went home and put on the first SW disc that [livejournal.com profile] tersa gave me (the original films, not the re-releases), and discovered that my DVD player didn't like it. I tried the rest just in case, but it didn't like any of them. Very odd. So I popped in "Prisoner of Azkaban" and there was much, "Aww, isn't he adorable?" and squeaking. It also made a new scene in a sequel I'm working on for Pliant pop fully formed into my head. [livejournal.com profile] ravenmb assures me that the sequel is working well so far, that's helpful as I think this is the first real sequel to a story I've ever written. Too many people on the [livejournal.com profile] lupin_snape community asked me to write it for me to ignore, though, so I'm giving it a go.

Sunday I hit the arts festival in MV and of course found another soap maker whose products I like. I did restrict myself to a single bottle of lavendar shower gel, though, so that's pretty good. When I got home I walked a couple of miles (it was too nice not to) then did my cat sitting and regular Sunday chores before collapsing slug-like on the couch. Balanced my checkbook and paid bills and discovered that I'd gone over budget this month by a fair bit, so no more shopping for me. But all the bills are paid so I'm not going to beat myself up too much. Recorded a great show on the tribal dances of the Pacific Islanders and I now know what a Haka means (literally "fire breath"), and what they're saying during it. Also had time to catch a great show in the series "Battlefield Britain" which featured the English/Spanish naval war in 1588, fascinating stuff and great re-creations on that one.

This week's going to be a busy one, but next weekend is going to be nice and quiet again, not to mention long, yay!

*gasps* You linked to your story in your journal! Yay! :)

And, yes, so far I'd say the sequel is better than the original. I'm sure your fans will agree once they get their hands on it.

Mmm, not sure I'd go with better, but it's slightly more coherent now that I'm writing it from the perspective of a whole story rather than just stringing dialogue together over the series of a few weeks.

Hwy, what happened to trusting my taste implicitly? ;)

It is hard to say, I suppose. To compare a couple weeks' worth of delight to one longer breathtakingly good read is dificult.

Pfeh.

[livejournal.com profile] forkmonkey reported having similar problems with the DVDs burned off the TiVo on one of his DVD players, too, so I guess it's not just randomness.

They seem to work find off computers. If your laptop has a DVD drive, you may want to see if it'll run there?

And I'll check it off my other DVD player (the TiVo was reading them fine).

I'll hook up my other DVD player and see if it likes them any better.
