Just saw a listing for a new "art house" film I need to see, Satin Rouge. It's about a Tunisian widow who changes her life by getting into bellydancing. Apparently a good portion of the film is just about the dance, the trailer itself looks like a lot of fun though the costumes seem a bit bland. It looks like these women really know how to move and I'll bet the soundtrack is going to kick serious ass.
Here are the only listings for theaters in the area:
SAN FRANCISCO, CA
Opera Plaza
September 20-26
BERKELEY, CA
Shattuck Theatre
September 20-26
I think the phrase that sold me was, "Let passion move you", that just about sums up what bellydance means to me. Gods I can't wait to see this!
Yeah, ok, shutting up about it now.
This weekend is shaping up nicely, Saturday will be spent with the always lovely, talented, and charming
jakejr, while Sunday belongs to two of my favorite guys,
elo_sf and
crobderg. The latter has actually said he'll let me sketch him! Gods I've missed having a real live model to work from and my drawing really shows it.
Speaking of which, last night
aelfsciene and I decided to pull out every poster, piece of art, and photo we had and just sit down and look through them all. We mentally laid out the themes for each area of our house and which pieces fit it best. Ok so it was a bit of a stretch to come up with a theme of the Xena and Gabby mag covers with the ladies in their skivvies, but we managed *G*
Looking through the artwork made me realize how much I'd missed it recently. I've been so busy learning new skills and practicing others that I just haven't been drawing like I used to. There was a time when all I did was draw, every spare second of every day. Even in grad school I was pretty prolific really. Since moving out here I think I've completed about three drawings, and that's in over two years! Much as I love dancing and making costumes I need to get back into my art, it's been my passion and savior of my sanity since I was a kid and I'd be heartbroken to lose it now.
Unfortunately the way I tend to work best is alone, curled up with a little light and my supplies, and giving myself about 6 hours of uninterrupted time to just draw. The opportunities for that these days are between slim and none. Perhaps I'll make the time on Monday and just sit and see what happens.
Ah Monday, not a single, solitary confirmed plan. Sure
cyranocyrano might drop by for a bit, but I don't have to go anywhere or do anything. Hallelujah. Now let's see how long it stays that way }:)
Crunches: Give me a few days, I'll get back into them.
Cockroach fatalities: 1 (thank you housemate for having a strong stomach and capturing the little fiend last night, I probably would've hid in the bathroom all night).

Which was kind of calming and soothing, in spite of the title.
