No hints on today's obscure quote except that it is also a classic film and one of my all time favorites.
So we have house. Not just any house, the house, just the one we wanted with all the elements we desired.
aelfsciene and I went over the place thoroughly and took loads of pictures. Every defect was carefully documented and discussed with the landlord (or rental agency, anyway) and we got all of the stuff we needed changed in writing. I think even the somewhat anal retentive
h0h0 was a little aghast at how much nitpicking was going on. He was also mightily impressed with the backyard, which says to me that it is indeed as impressive as I thought.
I'd forgotten about the hardwood floors in the living room, it's going to make enforcing the no shoes rule a bit more important, but the way the room itself is set up that shouldn't be an issue. I did think of one other thing I should've asked about afterwards, whether or not there had been any problems with either mice or bugs of any sort in the place. I suppose we'll figure that out quickly enough on our own.
At any rate, if I weren't spending the evening relaxing with the ladies I would get the move started now. But tomorrow will have to do, and then as much as I can sneak in this weekend as well, we'll see. Next week and weekend are going to be the real push as I try to get most of my non-essential stuff over to the new place. We've divided up the excess closet space in a manner that works beautifully for both of us so we're all set on that account. And boxes will be stored in the office for the time being, as no big furniture's going in there. If I can convince
mallen to give me a hand with the loveseat and papasan sometime next week the living room will have a good start. I'll be taking over the shelving units I've got first, then boxes, boxes, boxes.
Did I mention how much cabinet and counter space our kitchen has? I won't have to keep half of my cookware in boxes for the first time ever...*happy sigh*
My fingers are already itching to get to work on the backyard. It's getting quite brown and crispy without water, and the ground in some spots is so dry it's cracking. A good weekend with a big shovel some fertilizer and mulch should take care of that, along with a nice sprinkler, which I may try to pick up today. The front yard is fine and shouldn't need to be trimmed for at least a week or two, so that's ok, but the back has me fretting. Well at least now I know how my upcoming long weekends will be spent *G*
Oh and lest I forget, a big public thank you to
mallen for the lovely gift he brought me back from Russia. Surprisingly it was neither booze nor chocolate }:) Instead I have yet another addition to my Frodo collection, which I will actually be displaying when we get settled in at the house.
Now for those of you who asked about a housewarming I haven't forgotten any of you and I promise to let you all know just as soon as we get everything we need to throw a proper one, ok?
