May. 23rd, 2010 03:20 pmHad a surprisingly relaxing weekend so far, even though I got quite a lot done including some much needed cleaning. There are big tasks set aside for next weekend but for now I'm enjoying sitting on the couch *not* watching the end of the Sharks/Blackhawks game (because my masochism knows some bounds) under a pile of cats.
You think I exaggerate, but I assure you I'm not. Kage's curled up against my left hip, Lola's resting her head on my right thigh. Hachi is curled up against Lola and my torso while Pye's at the end of the couch also passed out. Oh and speaking of Hachi, it turns out she a) has allergies (I suspect pollen as they started once the windows were left open for greater periods of time) and b) is quite overweight. Benadryl if the first gets worse and probably some low cal cat food for her from now on. Still, that's my kind of vet visit and she was a perfect little angel throughout.
Currently my planting box outside is a battleground between two varieties of mint, a sage plant and the once tiny snapdragon I brought home from Common Ground. I've also got some huge leafed plants coming up with these tiny purple flowers that smell kind of like grape Kool-Aid. And the chocolate mint is going absolutely gonzo at the moment. I've added a few more plants to the collection including a tiny pomegranate bush, a little blueberry one and a Goji berry as well. I am considering a vanilla orchid for the kitchen. Really, really tempted.
Aside from that I finally got talked into seeing Sherlock Holmes with
windrose,
aelfsciene and
tersa despite my strong feelings against it. I love RDJ, and as I commented to the gals last night, he's my kind of action hero. Smart, funny, physical yet also incredibly vulnerable. I liked the movie more than I'd expected to, it was a great deal of fun, well written, well acted and harkened pleasantly back to Young Sherlock Holmes, H.P. Lovecraft, and any number of steam punk anime series I've seen over the years. But, what it wasn't was "Sherlock Holmes". Hell if they'd named RDJ's character anything else I would probably be down on my knees worshiping this flick. No, Guy Ritchie, Sherlock knowing "baritsu" did not make him a mixed martial artist except in your feverish imagination. I was also weirded out by his "every man" take on the characters who were, in a very canon and period sense of the word, actually gentlemen.
Also would it have killed them to hire an actual grown up to play Irene Adler? There are some talented, lovely 30-45 year old actresses out there who would've owned that role and given RDJ and Jude Law a run for their money.
Anyway, did love the relationship between the characters in an, "OMG it's House and Wilson in the 1890's!" kind of way. And it was fun to see John Watson kicking ass and taking names. Also RDJ's little whoop as he leapt out of the window was a thing of sheer, fucking awesomeness.
