[livejournal.com profile] aelfsciene, [livejournal.com profile] murdoch and I had a rather successful but exhausting yard sale today. I didn't have a huge amount to sell but enough and I made a decent amount. Best of all I went over with a car full of stuff and came back with only a few things in a single plastic bin that easily fits into my guest room. Go me!

Met some really great people, including one middle aged man who bonded over Lord of the Rings. Apparently he'd never read the books and just went to see the first film on a whim then became pretty obsessed. He bought most of the LOTR stuff I had available and I told him about going to the One Ring party in LA, doing Trilogy Tuesday, etc. He's just started going to cons so we chatted about them as well and I told him some war stories from my con security days.

Also met a dad and son, the dad decided to buy all the D&D manuals and Dragon magazines that [livejournal.com profile] murdoch had out because he'd loved playing when he was a kid and was determined to pass it on to his son. The son didn't seem to really be into it despite his dad commenting, "You'll thank me for this some day." The son was only really interested in the Luke Skywalker figure I had out and begged his dad to buy it for him. Turns out the kid's name was Luke and he was obsessed with making his own model lightsaber so we bonded over that and I gushed over his creativity and enthusiastically encouraged his obsession with my favorite Jedi.

Then there was the lady who spent nearly $100 just on clothes and who bought the outfit I'd once worn to a Renn Faire so that she could do precisely the same. This pleased me greatly. She also commented that ours was "the best yard sale EVER".

Aelf and I came quickly to the conclusion that we should do another yard sale before Burning Man because we've got just the sort of stuff that would be appealing for that. And she and [livejournal.com profile] murdoch have the ideal yard sale location. We're hoping to lure some other friends in next time to make the experience even more appealing to shoppers and spreading the largesse amongst our friends.
