Apr. 13th, 2010 11:45 amSo I've spent the past week or two being driven slowly mad by a bad smell in my bedroom. It's been getting worse and worse and for the last two nights I couldn't even sleep. This morning when I dragged myself up I knew I was in no shape to go into the office and I had to do something to figure out conclusively what the hell was going on.
Last night before dance practice I'd assumed it was Lola's litterbox that I was smelling so I cleaned it completely and then rearranged the bathroom so I could put her litterbox in the empty under sink space on the unused vanity in the master bathroom. When I'd finished you couldn't smell a thing but still the horrid smell persisted.
Today when I finally dragged myself out of bed for the second time I began taking everything out of the room one object at a time until I finally figured it out. The papasan.
Someone, and I only have circumstantial evidence, peed on it who knows how long ago and the bacteria have been going nuts ever since making the smell worse and worse. I think the crochet blanket that was on top of it is going to be ok with a thorough washing, but the cushion is a lost cause. It's out in the shed now soaked in Bac-Out to try to keep the smell to a minimum. I need to pick up some larger trash bags and then beg one of my pals with access to a dumpster to help me get rid of it as it might fit in my trash can but that'd be the only thing I could fit in there for the week which isn't really practical.
As for who did it, well I only have one cat in the house who has a history of peeing on the papasan to make his opinion of a particular situation known. I didn't see him do it so I can't say for sure, and there's no point in punishing him so all I can do now is maintain hyper vigilance and hope he doesn't feel the need to do it again.
But I do think I'll wait to replace that cushion until Lola finds a new home...
