Apr. 17th, 2009 09:18 pm Perry stands by secession comments
Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday stuck by his earlier statement that Texas can secede from the United States — a far-reaching, legally questionable prospect that nevertheless drew Perry a fresh favorable mention by Rush Limbaugh, one of the nation’s leading conservative voices.
The idea of secession — which Perry did not endorse — surfaced suddenly Wednesday after Perry appeared at an anti-tax “tea party” at Austin City Hall, where some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, “Secede!”
One wonders if Governor Perry has ever actually seen the end of Gone with the Wind, if not he might want to Netflix the DVDs posthaste. As I recall the whole secession thing didn't work out too well. On the other hand isn't Texas a ginormous tax sucking money pit? Hmmm... I'm kind of liking this idea all of a sudden.
And heh:
- Reply ManchuCandidate: Yeah, Texas, so long, don’t let the door, etc etc…
Oh wait, just one more thing: We’re closing Fort Hood and Fort Bliss and Fort Sam Houston and Brooks City-Base and Dyess Air Force Base and Goodfellow Air Force Base and Lackland Air Force Base and Laughlin Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base and Sheppard Air Force Base, and taking all the tanks and airplanes and soldiers and airmen away. Oh wait — there’s also that Coast Guard base in Galveston, and three Navy bases. And we forgot about the big F-16 plant in Fort Worth — it belongs to the US government, you see. And when the Corps of Engineers moves out you’ll have run the flood control works on the Trinity River yourself, but you can probably figure that out before it floods again.
Then you can do whatever you want with all those Mexicans that pick all the vegetables in Zavala County, cuz that’ll be your only food source after the cattle eat all the scrub grass. And we’re keeping the off-shore oil, because how you going to stop us? With your Navy? Oh, that’s right, you don’t have one! Too bad!
Bye-bye, Tejas!

After the last 8 years of being told how unpatriotic I am for not supporting my president 110%, I have to admire the way Republicans now consider it the height of patriotism to call for the breakup of the United States, to issue thinly veiled incitements to kill their fellow citizens, to wish for the collapse of our economy, and generally cheer on the destruction of America.
That, my friends, is some astounding assholery.
