The whole idea is to stop some of the worst factory farm practices by requiring farmers to allow animals enough space to stand up, lie down and stretch their legs. Or as their website so beautifully puts it:
It’s simply wrong to confine veal calves, breeding pigs, and egg-laying hens in tiny cages barely larger than their bodies. Calves are tethered by the neck and can barely move, pigs in severe confinement bite the metal bars of their crates, and hens get trapped and even impaled in their wire cages. We wouldn’t force our pets to live in filthy, cramped cages for their whole lives, and we shouldn’t force farm animals to endure such misery. All animals, including those raised for food, deserve humane treatment.
And here's a little good news on Prop 8:
The California Field Poll has released numbers from its latest survey, and they show opposition of likely voters in November’s election to Proposition 8, which would eliminate the right of same sex couples to marry in our state, growing to 55% while support is mired at 38%. Since Field began polling on this in July, support for the ballot proposition has declined from 42% to 38% and opposition, when read the ballot summary, has increased from 51% to 55%.
Of course that doesn't mean we should get lazy about this, keep spreading the word to anyone who'll listen. Vote NO on Prop 8!
