And now for a more generic update. Heard back from one of the companies I applied to and the position is, sadly, so low paying that I couldn't really afford to live on it. Basically they said "You're overqualified, sorry." Which is at least a response and more than I've been getting. Applied to a bunch more positions already this week, and one that sounds like a lot of fun (they specifically want folks with an interest in gaming and anime). The company that had called me back the week before last no longer seems interested in me, possibly because they asked how much I'd made previously and that took me out of the running.
I keep telling myself I'm doing everything right and I just need to be patient, but...well, it's getting old.
On the housing front our idiot construction guys managed to break our main water line so we didn't have any water pressure last night until around 11 pm. When I turned the water on then it came out decidedly yellow. Yuck. At least it was back on and working properly this morning. Unfortunately my upstairs neighbors had their music on loud until midnight and were banging around right over might head until 2. Then the music was back on a little before 7. I swear to god they are the most obnoxious and insane people I have ever been forced to live near.
Finally my sister and brother-in-law managed to acquire a Wii via eBay so my niece's birthday wasn't ruined after all. The one I shipped remains missing and I was told by the manager of the UPS store (in Sunnyvale, btw) that I shouldn't expect to hear anything until next Monday at the earliest. She also informed me that I wouldn't get a full reimbursement for shipping costs. Can you believe it? Not only did they lose the Wii and game I sent, but they're also charging me for it. Yeah, that's fair. I'm thinking of disputing the charge with my credit card company. And I'd better get every penny of that insurance money back. Every goddamn penny.
