And tonight there will be OotP, and Snape and Lupin goodness. Life doesn't get much better than that.

Baptist youth ministries leader Jennifer Zebel on the Harry Potter series:

I cannot believe that any secular book, character or movie advocating witchcraft of any kind could be this wildly successful without Satan having an agenda for it. The bottom line is that we know the right choice is to steer clear of these books and movies, but we don’t want to make the sacrifice. Satan is a wonderful writer and movie producer.”

And:
In Cedarville, Arkansas, the school board restricted access to the Harry Potter books unless a student could produce a signed permission slip from their parents. The board passed the rule because fundamentalist parents complained after “hearing a series of anti-Potter sermons in 2001 by Mark Hodges, pastor of the Uniontown Assembly of God Church and a member of the Cedarville School Board.”

So I've been on a mad quest to find me some DH fanfic, and lo, I've actually found a gem already. Superb take on Severus and his motivations in the story: Doe-Eyed by [livejournal.com profile] snark_bait

Well written, deft handling of one of the niggling plot holes JKR hand-waved off, and really good characterization of my favorite Potion's Master. Definitely do give it a read.

And I don't know if I mentioned On the Shores of Darkness when I discovered it last week, if not allow me to do so now. Nice post-war Snupin that progresses logically and realistically. No spoilers for DH, so feel free to read this one even if you haven't finished Book 7.

Ha! I finally have a post worthy of the title!

I do hope "off the table" Pelosi is paying attention to this:

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Monday moved another step - actually several thousand of them - toward carrying out her promise to run against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi because the California Democrat won’t consider impeachment proceedings against President Bush.

Sheehan and about 200 other war protesters began walking from Arlington National Cemetery to the Capitol Hill office of Rep. John Conyers, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, where any impeachment proceedings would begin. Sheehan said she would ask Conyers to initiate impeachment proceedings against both Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

“Impeachment is not a fringe movement, it is mandated in our Constitution; Nancy Pelosi had no authority to take it off the table, ” Sheehan told her group of orange-clad activists Monday. “If Nancy Pelosi doesn’t do her constitutionally mandated job by midnight … I will announce that I’m going to run against her.”

And from Conyers:

Now, let me close with this one suggestion, is that I need some Members of Congress to come to me and say Mr Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, I heard you were out in San Diego, and they really put it to you, and you made commitments that we don’t know if you were just saying… saying something to get out of that hotel alive (laughter) or were you, or were you serious and here’s what we need to do. We need to have three Members of Congress from anywhere come and say, “Congressman, if you, if you are willing to support an inquiry into a resolution of whether there had been acts of impeachability conducted by the Vice President of, and the President of the United States, that could lead to High Crimes and Misdemeanors, then we will join you if you introduce such a resolution”
