Oct. 16th, 2006 08:00 amHad a lovely weekend, starting with the latest BSG (which was excellent!), then a party at
jimweasel's place for the arrival of the newest member of the Egg Clan. I think I did pretty well gift-wise, part pragmatic (a hand-dyed cotton kimono-onesie in deep blues and greens) and part not (a boy's formal kimono in dark teal and light gold with a gorgeous perched hawk embroidered on the back). Went back to my place afterwards with
moonlightnrain where we watched "Spirited Killer", one of Tony Jaa's earlier films. The only thing missing from it was the Golden Harvest logo at the start, 'cause I know I've seen this movie made in the late 70's or early 80's and produced by them. Only not good. Stick to his later films like Ong Bak and the Protector, trust me on this.
We did get to play some Inuyasha: A Feudal Fairy Tale which was a lot of fun. Quickly discovered that the big attacks, while cute, really weren't as effective as just staying close and pummeling each other repeatedly. I did a bit of looking around online and discovered a cheat code to unlock most of the characters. I can kick some serious ass with Kagura but Sesshoumaru is utterly useless. Kikyo's not bad, though, but Koga rocks. Greatest moment in the game, though, was when we discovered that instead of tossing the girls (you can do a grapple move in this game, which is pretty sweet when it works) Miroku will actually grope them. Kagome's face when he does that is beyond hysterical, but oh how I have to see him do that to Kikyo.
Sunday was off to the city for "Terracotta Warriors", an "action musical" that told the story of the first Emperor of China through song and dance. Overall it was a fun show, though I've seen the story more times than I can say (the closest version to this was a Gong Li film, "The Emperor and the Assasin", which I highly recommend. Though if you want to go with the prettiest version, it's "Hero" all the way). The one bad part was being seated in front of a couple of ten or eleven year old boys who spent the entire show talking, giggling inappropriately and bitching about how much they wanted to leave. The adults with them did nothing to stop this. If we hadn't been in the center of an aisle I'd have gotten up and spoken to an usher about it. Why anyone would think dragging two petulant, totally disinterested boys to a show where the cheap tickets were going for $45 each was a good idea is utterly beyond me. If you've got that much disposable income kicking around and nothing better to do with it than piss it away why not give it to the homeless or a charity of some kind. It would've been money much better spent.
