Things I accomplished this weekend:

1) Watched "Ultimate Avengers" with Aelf, and it was surprisingly decent for American animation. They were way off book, and I had a few problems with the character re-writes (particularly Betty and Thor), but overall it was quite watchable. Despite how goofy the scenes looked in the next one I think I'll watch that too.

2) Got to rehearsals! Even though I'm not dancing in the next show I still want to keep practicing and gods do I need the workout, seriously a couple of weeks of downtime and I turn into a complete blob. My new goal is working out at least 5 days a week, I have absolutely no excuse not to.

3) Got to hang out with the girls, [livejournal.com profile] tersa, Aelf and [livejournal.com profile] jakejr, we had a nice dinner and then headed to the Tank for some Sharks action. Of course if we'd known that the team wasn't actually going to show up to play until the third period we might have opted to go do something else for the first two. I blame some of it on the piss poor officiating, I mean they made some absolutely horrendous calls and even worse, completely ignored eggregious penalties when the Coyotes did it right in front of them. At one point [livejournal.com profile] jakejr turned to me and muttered, "Even I saw that one", and not being much of a hockey buff herself, that's saying something indeed. I should see if [livejournal.com profile] tersa TiVo'ed it, I'd love to hear what Drew had to say during a couple of those.

4) Ran errands and finally got to BB&B to pick up a new digital scale that I can actually read even without my glasses. Yay! And it seems to be entirely accurate, which is an awfully nice change. Of course it did then tell me that I was higher than I wanted to be weight-wise, but I already knew that. Lots of work to do *sigh* but, I knew that too.

5) Pulled together a coherent Chapter Two in my seemingly never ending story. That brings me up to 54 pages and just shy of 30,000 words. Two more chapters to finish weaving together and that should do it. I also figured out a major motivator for one of my main characters and what's finally going to bring the two heroes together, which is something that's been puzzling me for weeks. Go me!

6) Managed to record several of the TBS LOTR commercials for posterity, including "It Sucks to be Frodo" and "Secret Lovers", which were the two I really wanted anyhow. Woo!

First Kaye Grogan comes up with this:

Let me say a big AMEN! . . . to Rep. Dana Rohrabacher of California, for suggesting that prisoners pick the crops in the United States. This is an excellent idea to make prisoners productive.

Since the taxpayers are already footing the bill for thousands and thousands of incarcerated prisoners — we wouldn’t be burdened with billions of dollars (draining our economy) adding millions of illegal immigrants (trying to take over our country) if we put prisoners in the “picking” crops’ business. […]

“We are all immigrants” has just about run its course. Every country started with immigrants, and they would not put up with millions of Mexicans or any other nationality trying to invade and take over their territory — so why is America expected to take in everybody from rogue nations?

Are we getting a gigantic trophy for being the most stupid country in the world?

And The Poorman responds with this. Wow, a picture is worth a thousand words, or two thousand if they're spouted by brainless wingnuts...

Christy at Firedoglake links to this Joe Klein piece in Time that almost makes me want to weep:

A series of terrible leadership moves have ensued. There was Frist’s effort to deploy the "nuclear option" — that is, to perform radical surgery on the Senate’s filibuster rules in order to allow votes on President Bush’s more extreme judicial appointments. But the nuclear option was thwarted when 14 Senate moderates cut a deal to keep the rules and allow votes on some of the appointees. "We saved him on that," said a G.O.P. staff member involved in the negotiations. "Frist never had the votes he needed for the nuclear option."

She then comments:

Great. For all of you who fell for the "vote for cloture or we’ll use the nuclear option in the Senate" bluff, I hate you. Just FYI.

Hate's a harsh word, but yeah, that about sums it up. Those cobags bluffed us with a pair of 3's and they're chorteling over it. It'd be nice if just once in a while the Dems would actually call their bluff. We could've won that fight, instead we get a Supreme Court with two additional Bush sycophants on board for life. Spectacular.
