LJ seems a bit untrustworthy today so I'll try to be brief. Managed to catch only half of Chop Socky last night as apparently IFC is an east coast channel so their 8 pm is my 5 pm. Gah! It was a truly excellent program and I'm praying they re-run it so I can get the whole thing. It seems I need to see a film called "Dirty Ho" (no, not that kind of "ho") as it is considered a true classic by everyone whose tastes in the genre I most admire. Next time I'm in up Chinatown I'll check that out.
Second, I've removed my wish list from Amazon and am moving my business over to Barnes and Noble instead. I just can't keep giving money to a corporation that makes almost half of its political donations to the GOP. Those bastards get more than enough of my money as it is, so B&N it will be from now on. They donate around 98% to the Dems, have all the best features of Amazon (wish lists, online discounts, free shipping over $25, etc.) plus a great set of sale sections, out of print sections, textbooks, etc. The selection of DVDs, toys, etc. isn't as good, but I'll live. Oh and no electronics or appliances, but I can't see myself needing either of those in the near future, and if I do, I'll go to Costco (another blue-friendly company). I highly encourage like minded folks to consider making the switch as well.
And third, a big thank you to everyone who so generously gifted me this year, particularly those who did precisely as I asked and made a donation for me to one of my favorite charities. So far I've donated to Planned Parenthood (thank you so much
tamago!), the Red Cross disaster relief fund (yay
jakejr!), breast cancer research (
aelfsciene!), the ASPCA (thanks mom!), and will be donating to Doctors Without Borders and Unicef (also thanks to mom and dad) in the very near future. I'd like to do this again on my birthday this year because it just feels so damned good. Yay!
Just a few more gifts left to deliver, and a belated one I need to get out to NY, then I'm done, done, done. Go me!
Oh, but in bad news a package that was supposed to be delivered to me on the 21st of December just got sent back to the sender after a week long struggle with Fedex. They assured me every single time I called that it would be delivered the next day. I'm so pissed about this that I'm completely swearing off Fedex in the future. Their customer service is awful, just flat out awful. Please, I beg you, if you must send me something do it via USPS, they haven't screwed me over in a very long time, and never at my new address. Unlike Fedex and UPS. Grr. :(
