If you've ever seen the t.v. series "Spaced" the subject line will make you laugh and laugh, if not, prepare to be preached to for the next few minutes. My sisters and friend J- are exempt from reading the remainder of this entry.

The series is a British comedy from the folks that brought us the brilliant "Sean of the Dead". If the t.v. series included flesh eating zombies "Sean" would simply be an extended episode. I stayed up much too late watching it last night and scared my cats half to death laughing myself silly.

Basically it's about a bunch of geeks (all different varieties), definitely lacking in social skills, living in a flat together, and their wacky adventures. Each episode, though, manages to work in some of the most abso-fucking-lutely brilliant pop culture (and especially sci-fi) parodies I've ever seen. My jaw dropped when they managed to do a loving send up of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" set in a Mexican restaurant. So far they've also brilliantly referred to "The Matrix", "Return of the Jedi", "Fight Club", etc. The main character, Tim, is an aspiring comic book artist and sci-fi/fantasy/comic snob extraordinaire. His best friend is Mike, a para-military wanna be with a massive gun collection, and the all the aggression of a friendly puppy. Daisy is an aspiring writer whose main goal in life seems to be doing as little as humanly possible in order to survive. Marcia, the landlady is a chain smoking, hard drinking, man chasing, red-headed version of Patsy with a better disposition. And Brian is the eccentric modern artist who shares the place with them and has just the right amount of neurosis to make him fun rather than cliche.

I started out really digging Brian but Tim won me over second season, though I'm not sure when the exact moment was. It could've been:

1) When he re-inacted the RotJ pyre sequence (in black Luke outfit) while burning all his SW stuff after seeing Phantom Menace.
or
2) When, in order to get fired, he turned around and bellowed at his new boss that Babylon 5 was a steaming pile of shit.
or
3) When he knelt in prayer to attempt to get a comic drawing job and it was revealed he was praying to a poster of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

In any case, I'm already counting the hours until I can get home and watch the rest of this gang's adventures. As much as I've always enjoyed "Coupling", I could never relate to any of the characters, they weren't "my people". But I swear to the gods I know each and every one of the folks on "Spaced", and have acted like them on more than one occasion. If you're local you should probably expect me to be thrusting episodes of this show into your hands in the not too distant future. You have been warned.

This weekend I *must* make icons...I truly must.
