The tophat makes the man
Sep. 21st, 2004 08:18 amYahoo mail is being a big fucktard for me today, so I'm afraid responses may be a bit slow, many apologies. Am beginning to think that accepting a Gmail account invite might've been the wise thing to do. But on a positive note, performance photos are beginning to trickle in and so far I'm mostly liking them.
Tonight we're heading down to B-'s place to watch one of the videos taken at Saturday night's performance. We're all bringing food and just planning to hang out and chat. I'm also hoping we do a bit of a critique on the performance as I'd like to tighten it up if possible. And
cyranocyrano's comment about the troupe being good enough to compete has my competitive juices flowing a bit. The funny thing is I'm mostly competitive regarding making sure Alyne ends up with more trophies. I just really want everyone to realize what a fantastic teacher she is and come flocking to her classes.
I also want her to focus a bit more time on veils as nobody can touch her when it comes to them and a big part of me wants the world to know it. I'm hoping DDF has inspired a new bunch of dancers to consider taking up this specialty. It's kind of sad to go to one show after another and only have seen it performed a handful of times.
Anyway, on non-dance subjects I finally got some housework done, go me! Also ran some much needed errands and even had time to pick up some lemon bars for tonight. I can only have them when I'm taking them to someone else's house and can leave the remains there. Those things are way too dangerous to spend more than a night in my apartment.
And many thanks to
shadowchaser44 for pointing out the movie that is one of David Thewlis' very few starring roles was running last night on IFC. For those who haven't seen it, "Total Eclipse" has him playing the poet Verlaine opposite Leonardo DiCaprio as Rimbaud, back when Leonardo was doing indie films that required him to...you know...act. All I can say is David...in period clothes...having an affair with Leonardo. Well let's just say that despite the fact that I've seen the film before (many, many years ago, so many in fact that I'd forgotten he was in it!) it took a lot of willpower not to stay up until 11 watching it. I did tape it, however, for future viewing, though I'll probably also track down a copy on DVD for myself.
As it turns out my upstairs neighbor decided to take up Morris dancing (by the sound of it at least) at around 10:30 last night so going to bed was a complete waste of time. The cats also declared a mini peace regarding the bed, with Pye curled up at the top and Kage at the bottom. I woke up several times feeling them pressed up against me for warmth and being utterly confused until my brain fog cleared. I'm so not used to sharing a bed, now it just freaks me out when I do. Yet another reason the single life would seem to be the one for me.
On an unrelated note, argh, why won't these ants die?!
