Feelin' groovy
Aug. 23rd, 2004 08:29 amThere is nothing like a relaxing weekend to make one capable of facing sunrise on a Monday morning with a certain degree of Zen-like calm. It doesn't hurt when one can get a full night's sleep Sunday night either. I should do that more often.
Friday night Aelf came over to stay and played with the kitties while I was off shaking my somewhat flabby groove-thing with
cyranocyrano at Inca Gardens. It was an ok show as far as I was concerned, I flailed my way through Choreo I and think I did mostly ok on the other two so I wasn't devastated. My outfit was "eh", but I'm glad I didn't go with anything warmer or I'd have keeled over and died.
Spent some time in the back chatting with the dancers before going out front to nibble on our "anti-Atkins" starch-o-rama spread. The delightfully befuddled waiter/co-owner did deliver a strange seafood type dish to the table apparently by accident, we found out later on. Of course he was so cute and kind that nobody seemed to get annoyed with him over any mistakes. I think dancers' families and friends have just learned to roll with the punches when it comes to venue dining. Menara's about the only place where the wait staff is accustomed to dealing with dancers and the crowds they bring in.
Went home and hosed off before trying to get a decent amount of sleep. Pye was rather unhelpful and managed to wake both Aelf and I up several times. Got up grouchy, but by the time Aelf and I got up to
jakejr's place I'd come to terms with the lack of sleep. We watched the final second season episodes of "The Wire" before heading out for some Chinese. Tried a new place that was currently undergoing some major plumbing problems and part of their ceiling was falling off. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to take it all in stride, though, so we did the same. Good meal and good conversation, who can ask for more?
Zoomed home to pet the kitties before taking off for
caredhel's for a mini-Craft Night. For me it mostly consisted of playing Golden Sun ("I'm not an addict, it's cool...") while the other two yarn geeked. We ended up watching "Whale Rider" and were treated to Aelf's new mantra, "Fuck you, grandpa!" :)
Sunday we got up bright and early and headed down for a veil class with Alyne. Her face just lit up when she saw that I had Aelf with me and we spent a good hour and a half going through the DDF set, blocking things out, and figuring out cues. It was incredibly productive and we all felt pretty damn good by the end of it. I also not only made it through the whole class, but the entire set in real time. So this tells me I do have the stamina to do this, even two nights in a row, hooray!
Hinko's starting to really gel for me and I'm learning Alyne's timing. I feel much calmer about DDF. I also had a couple of catastrophic veil problems while dancing it and managed to work through them all without missing a beat, so if it does happen in the performance, no problema. Alyne also mentioned that there might be a Labor Day gig at Sili-con which would be incredibly cool if it worked out.
Stopped at my beloved Cosentino's on the way back (there's one just down the street from Alyne's place pretty much) and stocked up on necessities before heading back. Two showers later we were feeling much more relaxed and settled in with leftover Chinese and a truly awful but entertaining pirate film that I believe was called "Swashbuckler". Then we watched "Below" and Aelf enjoyed it as much as I hoped she would. Afterwards we watched the end of "Bring it On" while eating an Amy's spinach pizza (yum!) before she had to take off for home. Got a little housework done then collapsed to spend the evening vegging.
I find myself becoming mildly addicted to the PBS series "Globe Trekker", which is making me want to travel again in the worst possible way *sigh*
Did a small ceremony wherein I thanked the gods for my many blessings these days and realized that I am more content than I can ever remember being in my life. Funny how that kind of thing can just creep up on you. I quite simply have no complaints about my life at present, and it's a very nice place to be.
