Busy, busy, busy
Apr. 26th, 2004 08:18 amFirst and foremost, this gave me the warm fuzzies this morning:
Massive March in Support of Abortion Rights
I especially liked this story-
While police instructed abortion opponents to keep to the sidewalks, one man, Erik Eggleton, 26, of Knoxville, Tenn., inserted himself in a crowd of abortion-rights demonstrators, holding up a giant placard of what appeared to be an aborted fetus.
Elizabeth Savage, 59, from Philadelphia, promptly stationed herself in front of him with a placard of her own. When he scooted down the sidewalk, so did she. They kept their respective vigils until a park policeman on a horse shooed the man off. The crowd cheered.
The fact that about 1/3 of the crowd was high school or college age gives me a great deal of hope.
Now on to the weekend! Lots and lots of socializing and another damn fine hockey game to boot.
Took my car in for it's 40,000 mile maintenance and Aelf was kind enough to give me a lift home so we could be at L-'s for the Sharks' game on time.
cyranocyrano joined us as well and we were all settled in front of L-'s big screen t.v. for the puck drop.
Allow me to pause here to say just how horrible the commentators at ABC were, IMHO. Ick. Though they did give us some memorable quotes. Apparently Forsberg had an "almost hat trick" because he "almost" scored two goals. Almost in the sense that he tossed a puck in with his hand in one instance, 'cause apparently if an Avalanche player does it, it's just fine.
What fucking ever. And if I recall correctly they referred to the Tank as "kooky". Nobody was quite sure why, but it became a running joke while we were watching. And
cyranocyrano quietly commented in the third period, "I think they should pull out that evil wizard now." which made Aelf and I giggle a lot, though L- just looked vaguely confused.
How we're managing to win with such horrible officiating is utterly beyond me, but the Sharks seem to be taking it as something of a challenge. And I liked the poll I saw this morning wondering who Aebischer was going to beat up next on our team. I gotta' go with Smitty, I mean why not? Everyone else is pummeling him at every opportunity. Though I've got to suspect that the two he'd really like to get his hands on are Cheechoo and Marleau. Fortunately they're both much too fast for him :)
And while I'm on the subject, swiped unapologetically from
2bit, ( behold the power of cheese... )
Finally got to see
elo_sf and
philipalden for brunch on Sunday (hooray!) and met the enigmatic
tyee Saturday evening. And I got to see
jakejr not once, but twice this weekend, which made me very happy indeed.
Aelf and I, because we are insane, got through about 4 or 5 episodes of DS9 yesterday afternoon as well, so we're into Season 7 at long last. I'm a little sad as I know it's the end and I've really enjoyed getting reacquainted with my favorite ST crew. Still, it'll feel nice to finish it up. Our goal is this week. So far we're off to a great start.
Hit the hafla last night and both Aelf and I managed to sell some stuff, which was cool. I also got a $2 bill from the hostess' daughter (who's absolutely stunningly gorgeous and it's always a struggle not to oggle her a bit at these gatherings), which made me smile. Haven't had one of those in a while.
There was much dancing, and we actually got to hang out with our old teacher, Shira, who also performed a debke number. It was a lot of fun, and we ended up being about the only two not in costume. Next time we're definitely dressing for it, and perhaps even doing a choreography of our own. Way too much fun. And the flat of strawberries I brought along seemed to have been the big hit of the evening which makes me very pleased. The things were HUGE, and so incredibly ripe and delicious. Man I love Cosentino's, I really do.
