Curse you Daylight Savings!
Apr. 5th, 2004 08:42 amGah, getting up an hour earlier this morning was somewhat less than pleasant. Weirdly enough Kage seems to have dealt with the time change better than I and promptly at 6:30 (formerly known as 5:30) this morning did her usual, "I'm starving to death, bitch, get up and feed me!" I begin to wonder if she can read the clock. Pye was still out cold in the living room so if it's some sort of internal cat clock thing he doesn't have it. He blinked up at me this morning looking groggy and confused, which pretty much mirrored what I saw when I looked at myself.
Uneventful but productive weekend. Got to see "Hellboy" with
cyranocyrano after a longer than necessary dinner. Fortunately the place wasn't too packed and we got pretty good seats nearly dead center. Saw the extended trailer for "I, Robot" and both of us scratched our heads in bewilderment. The beginning kinda resembled the book, but about halfway through I was wondering if I'd read the same thing the filmmakers had. Apparently not. Also got to see the ad for "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow", giant killer robots and Angelina Jolie in uniform with an eyepatch. Put me down as a big "Yes!" on seeing that one. It always makes me laugh that the trailer uses the opening theme music from SG-1, though.
Really enjoyed "Hellboy" though the editing left much to be desired. I came out of the film thinking, "Can't wait to see the *real* movie when it's out on DVD with all the scenes put back in". I thought Ron Perlman did a splendid job not only bringing the tough-talking, cigar-smoking badass side to life, but he made the character really sympathetic in a way I'm not sure anyone else could have. The character is basically a nice kid in a demon's body. I also loved the guy playing the young professor. He did a great John Hurt impression and I couldn't help thinking that I want him on my team in the next Call of Cthulu campaign. Speaking of which, this film is just oozing over with Old Ones and tentacles galore. But it's the fact that the main characters are such complete smartasses that really won me over. Abe's "We lead a charmed life" when faced with the prospect of swimming in a murky, teeming with nasty critters, underground pool was perfect. And Hellboy's near constant "Oh crap" had me using the phrase nearly all weekend. The one sad moment for me was a bit of a throwaway joke regarding Hitler. The fact that the "everyman" character, John, had to spell it out for the audience nearly made me weep. I know this because I was about the only person laughing before the joke got explained. *sigh* In the words of Handy, "Read a book!"
Anyway, spent Saturday working, working, working. My yard looks acceptable again, the house was spotless, and I felt genuinely accomplished and tired at the end of the day. Stayed up a bit later than I'd wanted to watching "Tenchi in Love" which was being played as the subbed version. Infinitely better than dubbed, but I adore the show so much I'm willing to watch either. I need to own that one and "Tenchi Universe" without question. I'm such a raving Ryoko fan it's not even funny.
Sunday, up reasonably early and finished up a few odds and ends then made a grocery store dash before taking off to pick up Aelf at the airport. Ended up watching the SG season finale and as expected she was ticked. Then we launched into four more eps of DS9. The Changeling infiltrator was revealed, all kinds of Garak secrets came out, and Julian finally faced up to his past. A very productive DVD of episodes. We're going to try to finish up this season in the not too distant future. Just two more to go!
Probably won't be at class tonight but I'll definitely be dancing. I didn't do it yesterday and I really missed it. Did, however, get some work in on a "killing time" quilt I pick up and work on whenever I don't have a specific project. Until I get the right fabric for my real project, this is a nice way to keep my hands busy while watching t.v.
Family arrives tomorrow so you all probably won't hear from me after about 11 a.m. unless you reach me by phone.
