Phoenix, The Cat That Would Not Die!
Sometimes the will to live and sheer unadulterated luck can win out even in the most extreme circumstances. But this is a good reminder that there are an awful lot of abandoned pets out there that are put down each and every day. If you have room in your home and have been thinking about a pet, why not adopt an adult sheltered animal? Sure they often come with their own special quirks and personalities fully formed, and yes they can often be far more work than one might think, but they're also some of the best, brightest, most loving creatures on this planet. I wouldn't trade my two neurotic, spazzy, sometimes freakish cats for anything in the world.
And now a small rant. I was nearly in an accident this morning on my way to work. I'd just turned onto a side street one street over from where I lived. I was driving along slowly (not even 30 miles an hour yet) when a drive in the next street down pulled out right in front of me, and I do mean within inches of my front bumper. I slammed on the brakes, everything on my front seat dummped onto the floor, and I laid on the horn. He never even bothered to look in his rear view mirror. This is the second time in as many months that this has happened right in my neighborhood. There's no reason for it, the streets are wide and it's quite easy to see oncoming traffic if you look for it. But people just seem to turn off their eyes and their brains. At least the last woman who nearly pulled her mini-van out in front of my car when I was only a few feet away from her heard my horn and responded appropriately, then waved to let me know she saw me and was sorry for being a fucking moron. But not this guy, Mr. Oblivious. How many near misses has he had simply because he didn't bother to pay attention? And how long before he actually kills someone through his stupidity? Here's hoping this was a one time event, but somehow I rather think it was the norm.
*sigh* Ok, on to something different. Interesting weekend, spent half the day on Saturday helping
jakejr move. It went pretty smoothly and quite quickly, all things considered though there were a lot of fucking stairs! My calves were a bit owie on Sunday, but yesterday...oh my god. The two day rule definitely applied when I woke up and attempted to walk to the bathroom in the morning. Ow, ow, ow. Combined with a lingering headache from the previous day's allergy attack, and I sensibly called in to work.
Sunday was the day from allergy hell, exacerbated by stubbornly insisting on going in to put in my time at the cat shelter. When I'm already sniffly the fur and litter dust totally does me in. By the time I got home I knew the day was shot. And then add the heat onto that, and well you can see how I might have been less than happy. Allergy sesaon and this damn heatwave can be over now. Really.
Slept much better last night, though I swear I woke up to thunder around two this morning. Can anyone confirm or deny this? It kinda freaked me out a little, I mean thunder...here...in the summer? Wacky.
Oh, and I officially declare this "Get shit done" week.
