Holy day care center, Batman!
Aug. 4th, 2003 08:45 amOk, I must confess my latest addiction publically, I can't stop watching Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. There were 3 episodes on last night and the only way I got to bed before midnight was by setting up a tape to catch the last one (the hunky cowboy), which I hope to catch tonight. I haven't laughed as loud or hard at any t.v. show in my life and Aelf and I have decided that we want the Fab 5 to come make us over. "Queer Eye for the Straight Girl?"
I swear they put the Trading Spaces interior designers to shame. And you get all the house makeover goodness of TS and WYWO and all the personal makeover fun of WNTW, without the dull, lame "personalities" on any of those shows. And good god I want to go shopping with Carson and an unlimited budget. Oh, and boys, my closet is all yours any time you want to tidy it up.
Yeah, stereotypes abound, but at the same time the guys both camp it up and playfully poke fun at them. One of my favorite moments was when Carson was asking hunky cowboy if he'd had a gay friend pick out a particular top for him. Cowboy grins slowly (not much upstairs in that one, but who cares?) and admits his gay friend Dawn did so. Carson kinda nods and asks, "Lesbian? Oh yes, of course, Dawn the lesbian, I know her."
I think what surprised me the most about the show was how good natured the guys who volunteered for it were, and how comfortable they seemed. What pleased me the most was how dedicated each was to making their S.O.'s happy by making themselves over. I just kept thinking, "Wow, guys like that really exist? I thought they'd gone the way of the unicorn." Of course they were all taken. *grumble*
Anyway, enough obsessing. Got loads done this weekend, nearly all of my goals were met and I feel like life is in something approximating order again. Go me! In addition to the list items I also got the handkerchief skirt I'm making cut out and pinned, so it's just a matter of stitching it together at this point. And my weekly volunteer work was delightful, got done with the cleaning early so I got to spend some time with the kitties. My favorite calico climbed into my lap again, purring her little head off. She's half "Love you!" and half "I'll bite yer hand off, rar!", which is just the right combination for a kitten. How I've so far resisted scooping her up and making off with her is beyond me.
Also got to spend some time with
mister_sunshine and saw "The Specials" for the first time. Very interesting, though it did make me long to sit down and watch "Mystery Men" again. I need to do that in the not too distant future.
I need more sleep and a long, lazy weekend. Too bad I don't get my wish until, oh, probably October at this rate.
