Yay for long, relaxing weekends, double yay when they're also my birthday weekend! Lessee, what to comment on first. Mmm, Friday night got to see "28 Days Later", good film, interesting film, thought provoking film, decidedly British, more psychological horror than our own "Boo!" variety of scare flicks. Worth seeing? Definitely. Profoundly disturbing and gory? Oh you better believe it. I would highly recommend that [livejournal.com profile] windrose not see this film. I can give her a long dissertation on why she would not like it in a seperate email.

Ended up sitting two seats down from my CEO's son, how weird is that?

Saturday got up much too early and zoomed up to RWC for brunch with [livejournal.com profile] elo_sf and [livejournal.com profile] philipalden, mmm, blueberry coffee cake. It was the perfect way to kick off a truly lovely birthday. Zoomed back down south and promptly took a nap for a bit before getting changed into my dancing duds. Got a call from my family, and managed to talk to my mom and sisters before taking off. The bAAARRRRR-b-que was delightful and all the food I sampled was divine. Then got surprised by a key lime birthday pie and some truly amazing gifts. A huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone involved on the gorgeous dancing outfit! I've been madly in love with it ever since I first laid eyes on its bronze and cream perfection and I promise to wear it to debut my first solo in. BTW, it fits like it was made for me *G* Thank you all, it's exactly what I wanted! Also received a lovely print from Aelf and a very funny blank book from [livejournal.com profile] tamago. And I'll backtrack to thank [livejournal.com profile] tersa for my beautiful cross stitch, and my family for the gift box I received last week.

Our dance performance at the party left a great deal to be desired, but it was fun when we got it to work (kinda), and we all laughed off the rest of it and enjoyed ourselves despite the technical difficulties. Hey, if you're going to have a disastrous performance best to have it in front of friends, right? We'll just chalk it up to a "learning experience".

Got home in time to do a small ceremony of thanks to the gods for all of my blessings this year. I have a great deal to be thankful for and precious little to complain about. How many people can say that?

Sunday started quite slow, sleeping in decadently and doing very little aside from reading and relaxing. Got dressed later on and headed out for dinner and Rocky Horror. Dinner ended up being a bust as the Spaghetti Factory doesn't take reservations...and, um, it was Father's Day. An hour wait was out of the question so I mentioned that Peggy Sue's had a decent veggie selection and we all trooped over there. Grand dinner and great company, despite a change of venue. Then we were off to the theater. Poor Aelf had a terrible time with her shoes and managed to rub them bloody before we even got there. It put a bit of a damper on the evening, but the show itself was a great time all around. The theater is tiny, but the cast is enthusiastic and makes very good use of the space. It reminded me a lot of a very creative floorshow, indeed I've seen some of the effects done in floorshows and was much amused. We were one row from the back so got to enjoy the always rowdy back row antics. I joined in on many of the shouted lines when I felt they were applicable to the stage performance. The cast was clearly enjoying the feedback and responded to it. Particularly the criminologist, who played directly to them with a bemused air.

The Frank kept reminding me of something and it took me until about halfway through to place it. Have any of you ever seen the Hercules series? Remember when Michael Hurst cross dressed as the Widow Twanky? Ok, now imagine that the Widow had a malevolent, pervert of a brother and you've got their Frank. What a hoot! And when the back row made derrogatory comments about his face he paused long enough to glare out at them and mouth, "Bitch!" before going back into his lines. The bedroom scenes were absolutely hilarious (a great repeating stretch and snap of a condom had us howling). But my biggest kudos to the Dr. Scott, who took one of the smaller, less interesting roles and damn near stole the show. The Columbia was adorable, the Magenta smoldering, and the Riff kinda sexy and creepy all at the same time. Rocky was blonde and dim, Janet perky and cute, Brad stodgy and uptight, and Eddie...well let's just say their casting choice put the "ruff" in "rough trade". Heh.

All in all a wonderful show and a great time. I even got to run down at the end and join the cast and other audience members in doing the Time Warp. Yay!

Went home and vegged for a bit, but stupidly forgot to tape XMen Evolution *sigh* Ah well. Passed out and slept in until about 9, when I got started on a good day's work. Yard work, mostly done. Bird crap removed from car, plants repotted, grass fertilized and watered, shopping done, cat food purchased, litterbox changed, trash dumped, floor swept, bathroom cleaned, counters cleaned, hand washables taken care of, and floor vacuumed. And all before 3 pm. At which point, I crashed good and hard. So much so that I couldn't quite get myself inspired to go to class, instead ended up watching Stargate and then the rest of Phantom of the Opera. Read some old fanfic and finished re-reading Susan Kay's Phantom (for about the sixth or so time). Had a lovely dinner cooked by my wonderful roommate, and thoroughly relaxed. Does it get any better than that?
