Today I am treading lightly and carrying a nice big stick. My tarot reading last night was unsettling, not terrible, but it did warn of possible emotional trauma today. Now I'm not the type to live my life by readings or astrological predictions, but I do see them as useful signposts. They give me warnings regarding things and situations I should be aware of that are coming into my life.
And when my tarot deck is hot, it's disturbingly accurate.
So I'm going to have a care today but not let it make me paranoid, but be aware of possibilities that I might want to avoid. It's just common sense really.
But aside from that life is good. I have some sweet paychecks coming up thanks to my retroactive raise, which should help me pay off all my credit card debt (after the move) and put away a sizable chunk for my trip home this Xmas. I've also doubled the amount I'm squirreling away in my 401K so I may actually start accumulating some fairly serious money there soon. I may also (finally) be able to start that savings account I've wanted to and perhaps invest a bit too. Goddess that sounds lovely.
I've also got this budding plan in my mind to turn the extra scraps of wood and brick littering my yard into a nice big box planter in the ugly corner of our yard. Killing two birds with one stone always makes me happy. And having a spot specifically targeted for veggies is just a good idea. I'd dig up the yard itself, but the soil quality sucks and trying to keep it watered in the summer is just too difficult out here. A nice contained spot that will retain water sounds better to me. Now I need suggestions for veggies to plant, I think tomatoes are a must, possibly broccoli and/or cauliflower. Maybe squash, and of course pumpkins (I had a plant back in NY that produced such gorgeous ones in the fall that we never had to go buy any at Halloween), and peppers for
mallen. Is there anything else I should be planting that people would happily take off my hands? The planter will be pretty sizable so I may have room for one or two more.
And I checked my composting bucket today to see how the grand experiment is going, it's compacted down a good 3+ inches which definitely means things are moving right along. I need to stir it up tonight and then that will go into the planter box as a nice thick layer of fertilizer.
I think I'll keep the herbs in pots as they're easier to deal with that way. Also I'm going to be embarking on drying and preserving herbs in the coming weeks, I should have the following to share:
Basil (sweet, regular, lemon)
Oregano
Rosemary (lots)
Thyme (mostly lemon, some lime)
Mint (peppermint, curly, orange, chocolate, cat)
Lavender
Scented Geranium (rose, chocolate mint)
I'm stopping by OSH tonight to pick up some jars and such to keep everything in and am probably going to end up buying one or two more plants while I'm there as well. If there's something you don't see on the list that you'd have a good use for let me know and I'll try and track it down.
