Today's is a bit tougher, but if you're a western fan like myself you can probably figure it out by process of elimination.
So I learned an important lesson last night that I feel the need to share. Attempting to mow two and a half months worth of unmown lawn with a push mower is rather like being sent to Hades for offending the gods and doomed to roll a big heavy boulder up a hill for eternity. Only the boulder probably wouldn't jam up every few feet. In that way, at least, Sisyphus had it easy.
I learned that even the most microscopic twig can jam my new mower, causing it to cease to function until it is cleared. I learned that attempting to push anything through about 5 inches of fresh, verdant grass is next to impossible, but doubly so with a push mower. I learned that when it comes to sheer, stupid determination, I'm more than amply blessed. I also learned that I have a nice neighbor named Alice who owns a power mower. }:)
But the lawn has been conquered, and the backyard was so easy by comparison that it made me actually laugh. Now I just need to pick up a rake to get rid of the accumulation of dead grass in the front and perhaps a weedwhacker for the edges and I'll be content. Ah the joys of renting a home.
On the positive side I got some new plants into their respective planters. I got a big planter to cover up this circular nasty spot in the lawn by the patio and I think it's going to start a pot garden trend for herbs and smaller veggies. BTW,
mallen I found a little pepper plant at OSH for 99 cents with actual peppers growing on it already, I replanted it at home and will be sure to let you know when they ripen. The big planter currently contains lavendar, catmint and lemon thyme. It smells like heaven! I just spent a few minutes burying my face in the fragrance last night when I'd finished.
Also managed to do some cooking in the spacious new kitchen so poor
aelfsciene would have something to eat when she awoke, and then watered the back lawn and trimmed a few branches that needed to go. Then I hung up a seed bell for the birds, though with the number of squirrels in the yard I doubt the birds will get much of it.
Then
h0h0 swung by for a visit and we chatted and watched the sun set until Aelf awoke and we moved indoors so I could feed her. I puttered a bit and after h0h0 took off, Aelf and I sat and plotted out what we were going to try to accomplish by the end of this weekend. We'll see how much of it actually gets done, but with only one plan for the weekend so far I'm feeling very positive.
I'm also sleeping this weekend. Apparently the sleep dep is now catching up with me as my body has decided to take a few extra minutes each morning before it wakes me up. It does make getting ready a bit more exciting as I now have a deadline to beat. But actual sleep rather than relying on caffeine to keep my eyes open at work, would be a good thing.
Crunches: 85 (woo!)
Scent of the day: Honeysuckle
