That was probably the most accurate fortune I've ever gotten from a cookie in my life. Perhaps less a fortune than a statement of fact, and a pretty apt summation of my existence to date. Although most people would probably say "You always have to do things the hard way." I like the fortune better.

Ok, first let me post a link to my pics from Saturday evening's PEERS costume ball (www.ebonlock.com/2002_0504), which was absolutely lovely. We all looked ravishing and I think everyone had a very good time. Aelf enjoyed herself immensely and seems to have found her calling in life...Morris Dancing. I shit you not, and the quote of the evening was definitely, "They get to bounce...and beat each other with sticks?! I have to learn this!" The effervescent Megs scored us a flyer for their little organization. Bay Area Morris dancing, who knew.

I also got to meet the bubbly "T" who even managed to lure me out on the dance floor once (just once) and kept us highly entertained throughout the evening. That man can dance! And his Dr. Evil impersonation nearly did me in. Belgium!

Though I didn't have much to do at Team in Training earlier that day, I'd managed to get some reading done and spend some time talking to a very sweet woman who was also volunteering. I also got to play with her little dog, a Whippet whose name escapes me. It was a very calm animal, unlike most dogs its size, and very affectionate. The dog and the book kept me awake until elo_sf finished his walk, at which point we took off and grabbed some much needed Jamba. Then we met up with princess_mei to go pick out fabric for his kimono. She took us to Thai Silks, which is disturbingly close to my bank branch. This I did not need to know. Still, we found a gorgeous fabric that is going to look stunning on him, I can't wait to see the finished product!

What else? Oh yeah, Spiderman with jake_jr after we got back. I liked the movie, didn't love it, but then again the webhead was never one of my favorites. Tobey does a decent job (and his big goopey smile when MJ first compliments his eyes sold me on him), though when he's asked to do anything other than look cute or like a small woodland creature, he's not very adept. Kirstin was annoying, but most comic book S.O.'s are, so they were staying pretty true to the original there. Jake_jr and I had a great time spotting the Shemps in this one, even at the wretched angle we were sitting in I could see Bruce Campbell's distinctive chin very easily. Missed Lucy Lawless until she was pointed out to me, and Ted Raimi appeared as yet another bumbling nerd getting barked at by Jameson. DaFoe seemed to be laughing all the way to the bank and pretty much phoning in his performance. Given what he had to work with, that's not such a bad thing. And the CGI was..well..CGI, and pretty obviously so. Worth seeing? Sure. But if you can hit a matinee I'd recommend it.

Sunday did not start with a newly washed car, but I content myself with the knowledge that it was the only area I failed in that day. I did get my grocery shopping done, I did track down a copy of Metropolis, I did invite some friends over to watch it (though h0h0 disappeared when I went out to get Chinese...), I did get to watch 60 Minutes for the first time in about a month, and I forced myself to watch XFiles despite my better judgment. So it turned into a fairly relaxing Sunday all things considered. Oh and I highly recommend Metropolis, though it would be better served on a bigger and more impressive entertainment system than I possess. It's absolutely stunning.

Guess that's it for now, I'm quite sure I had other things to say, possibly something relating to the humilliating defeat of the Sharks on Saturday, but I'm equally sure others have beaten me to the punch on that one. Fortunately I only saw a few minutes of the game, just enough to know that Nabby definitely needed a hug after that one.

Thanks so much, Aelf for some truly wonderful pics, I'm thinking of turning at least one into an LJ icon, I need opinions, either:
