Kevin Spacey, sweet!
Next I would like to bid a fond farewell to the land of Sufficient Sleep and wave hello to Sleep Dep City. So I was all ready to go to bed last night after watching about 3 1/2 more episodes of DS9 (I didn't really want to watch all of "Meridian", the Dax storyline is just way too Next Gen for me, so I'll skim it tomorrow night for the fantastic Odo/Kira bits). Mmm, "Civil Defense", nothing could be finer than snarky Garak sniping at Dukat. Enjoyed "The Abandoned", but it's not one of my all time favorite Odo eps.
Anyway, after putting laundry away I was about to climb into bed when I noticed that one of my pillows was damp. I went through the usual routine of trying to figure out what the hell was up. No scent, no leaks from the roof, cat drool was possible, but why would it have ended up on a pillow that was underneath another pillow? Weirded out I started scanning the room, and ended up checking out the window. That was when I noticed the hole in my window sill.
Kind of looks like Pye jumped up there and his foot went right through it. Tapping on the wood produced a rather hollow sound through part of it. Now Pye's been sitting up there since I got him and this has never happened before. My current theories are a) wood rot (and given the shoddiness of my window this would not be surprising) and b) termites (I've seen a colony out in the backyard, so again not farfetched). In either case...FUCK!
Gah. So now there may be additional vermin in our home, and the gods alone know how much damage has been done structurally to it. I'm about to call the realtors now, this is absolutely absurd.
Anyway, deciding that Aelf was right to suggest sleeping out on the futon might be the way to go I did just that. I'd forgotten how uncomfortable that thing is. On the plus side, though, I had a nice quiet evening and two warm kitties to keep me company so it wasn't all bad. Still, FUCK!

Date: 2004-02-26 08:39 am (UTC)Turns out we were missing roof shingles from the wind-storm and water was getting in there and then running the entire roof through the attic to my window. I'm just waiting for the news we have wood rot in the roof now ...

I am quickly coming to the conclusion that buying a home in this area is just plain dumb. My house back east is just as old as the one I'm currently living in (probably older) and in much better condition. What I wouldn't give to find a place with real windows and insulation...*sigh*
Here's hoping you don't get bad news on the roof, replacing one of those is a real pain in the arse. Are you an owner or are you renting?
