I'd completely forgotten that another of my favorite Odo episodes appeared in second season until we got to "The Alternate" last night. As soon as Dr. Mora showed up I did a little mental "squee!" and it all came flooding back. Boy it has been a while since I watched the earlier episodes. Best red herring ever to appear in an episode (the pillar) and just some tremendously complex emotional issues. And oh gods do I bow down and worship Rene's acting in that one. The fact that he and Armin can convey so much through all that makeup never fails to astonish me.

And the scene with Mora and Odo in his office...damn, words just fail me. *sigh* I think I read most of the stuff years ago, but [livejournal.com profile] odogoddess if you have any suggestions for "The Alternate" related fanfic I'd dearly love to hear them.

I also hadn't realized before just how often the name "the Dominion" came up in second season before the finale rather formally introduces them. Every time I hear some character offhandedly mention them I get a little thrill. Gods we can't watch these episodes fast enough!

Ok, sorry, enough gushing for the moment. Had an otherwise pretty quiet night, with Aelf busily whipping up Quorn (faux chicken) quesadillas for us when I walked through the door. Mmm, Quorn is fantastic and works in pretty much everything we've tried it in to date. Yum!

Got some crafting done, though sewing continues to take a toll on my hands. I really need to get some good, flexible thimbles that fit properly. Maybe I'll work on doing that this weekend.

Got to bed on time and passed out almost at once. This cutting back on caffeine thing seems to be doing the trick when it comes to my sleep pattern. Still wake up feeling like I need another hour or two of sleep, but I can live with that.

Sharks game tonight with the ladies, and then gaming tomorrow. Saturday I'll get some work in, and may just bring my tax info with me and stay at the office long enough to do them while on a fast connection. Beats the hell out of my dial-up at home, and I'm going to be here anyway. Then over to L-'s for "Fight Club", which I've been meaning to see for about 3 years now. And Sunday various and assorted errands and chores so that the house will look kinda' ok for next weekend's activities.

And I've got to squeeze in a delayed Imbolc ceremony somewhere. Wish me luck.

I *know*! I was squealing a lot during Season 2 for the same reason!

Even now, in Season 3, I am squealing, much like in Monty Python, "GET ON WITH IT!"

Hi, there.

Just wanted to let you know that the S. Brightman tickets reached us - thanks for sending them!

Hope you have gotten my check - if it hasn't already arrived, you should definitely look out for it today. Let me know if it doesn't show up.

Ah but there's so much good stuff in S3 to distract one from the intense desire to see the Dominion come in and whump serious ass.

I'm very relieved to hear it, I was a little concerned about mailing them.

Yep, I got it, thanks!

You know, I've been enjoying your views on re-watching early DS9 and your Odo recollections. I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one. Maybe you should crosspost them to Do Me Odo. Or RAFL-AFF. Poor list needs a bit of life injected into it.

In re: the topic of Alternate-related fic, I can't think of any off the top of my head, but there are some fics featuring Mora. Do you prefer Mora-as-father-figure or Mora-as-nasty-bastard? I did write one that featured Mora-as-Odo's-pimp once. Very non-cons.

I re-read T-'s novelization of the episode (damn that was good), but I guess my take on Mora has always been that he's something of an emotionally abusive parent figure. So I'm more in the "nasty-bastard" side I guess. I mean he's not irredeemable or anything, he just can't seem to treat Odo as a person with feelings. Part of him keeps treating him as an "it", and/or projecting his own emotions and needs onto Odo. I think the episode was a bit of a wakeup call for him, and I like to think that they mended a lot of fences behind the scenes, but still...
