We find out today about the house, possibly even this morning sometime. I'm currently in a very calm and tranquil place mentally. I've made my peace with the possibility that we may not get it because we cannot start the process before July 1. I'd like to get it for a number of reasons, chiefly that we'd be done with the whole exhausting, disconcerting task of finding a place to put our stuff before our current leases are up. The other reasons relate to what an incredibly cool place it is, how nicely situated, and the huge yard.

On the other hand it's expensive. Not ridiculously so, and as houses go it's actually quite a good price. I mean they only want slightly more for it than the hovel I looked at initially. Still, this is a major investment for me and leaves me slightly more precarious financially than I have been since I started my current job. So if we don't get the place I'll chalk it up to Fate and accept that it just wasn't meant to be.

But somehow I think we are going to get the place, I just have a really good feeling about it.

In other news, packing is going extremely well and fast. I'd forgotten just how much stuff never got unpacked the last time I moved. Mostly I just need to seal boxes up at this point, and get newspapers to wrap the fragile stuff in and that's about it. The whole process just seems much less daunting than it did last time, but part of that may be that we're going to have a cleaning person come in at the end of it and do a thorough job on the apartment. That in and of itself is such a relief. Cleaning the last place was murder on me and the idea of having it done for me this time seems like a gift from the gods.

Now I want the house, I want my keys, and I want to get this process underway. I want to figure out where furniture is going to go and start planning what I want to do with the garden. I want to invest in one of those little push mowers and have an excuse to get out in the sunshine and off of my butt once a week. I want a birdfeeder for the backyard. And I want a kitten, oh boy do I want a kitten.

But mostly I want to wander around all that space and just realize that it's half mine. No more tiny 780 ft. apartment, 1500 square feet of luxurious room! And the yard...well I salivate just thinking about it.

Ok, so maybe I'm not so Zen-like after all.

I'm trying not to think about it, but it's not working that well. If I haven't heard from Bruce by around 1pm or so, I'm going to call him and ask that he please call you when they've made a decision, because I'll be at a movie this afternoon. Work-sponsored fun, woohoo.

Apart from packing up little things, and reboxing all my really breakable figurines, I haven't gotten much done in the way of packing yet. But I am getting rid of stuff that I don't want or need around the house, which is sorta like packing, or anti-packing, so I won't need to move it. ^_^;; Tonight, hopefully, I'll get a start on my books, and have some idea of just how many boxes I'll need from U-haul. I bought five last night, hopefully I won't need an entire packet of 25. But then, there's kitchen stuff, which I should start thinking about, and I don't think all my clothes will fit into my suitcases, and well. I need more staging-area room, there just isn't much space for boxes as things are.

Not Zen at all, augh

Yeay!

Look at it this way, we're ahead of the game and can take our time getting this stuff packed and over to the house. So realistically you should only be doing this in increments. And if we do get the keys a little early we can go ahead and get started bringing stuff over, like smaller shelving units, get those set up, and unpack as we move (thus freeing up boxes) and clothes can come over in a suit case or two at a time. So that thought should help get rid of at least a few of the jitters, right?

True, true. Taking over some of the clothes I seldom wear (most of the dressy stuff, thing I intend to fit into again) and leaving them in the closet would be great. Ditto for most of my shoes--I mostly need sandals and sneakers in summer. I don't have much in the way of smaller bookcases, but maybe Mark can be convinced to help take a couple bigger ones over, or something. And pretty much everything for sale is already boxed up, which should hopefully help.

I just want to know!

What she said. And I would think that [livejournal.com profile] windrose would rather be inconvenienced for a few weeks if you do move out sooner, than to inconvenience both of you for goodness-knows-how-long while you find another dream home.
