This disturbed me:

A new cell phone recently released in Asia is making its mark
by calling itself the first cell phone just for females.
Whether it will crash and burn amongst cries of political
incorrectness or take off and make its way to the States is
yet to be determined. Designed to look like a jewel itself,
the Samsung SGH-T500 phone is shaped sleekly with cubic
zirconium stones and unique shiny finishing used in the
overall design. The phone includes an external screen with
six screen savers featuring "high end" female-oriented
images. Upon opening the phone, an internal screen has the
unique function of being able to be used as a mirror at the
touch of a button. The ring tones up the ante with
super-polyphonic music ability. The features of the phone
itself claim to be highly female-centric as well. The
Biorhythm feature allows users to check their daily physical,
emotional and intellectual cycles. The Fatness feature allows
users to assess body fat levels, while the Calorie feature
allows for counting burned calories. There is even a tool
called the Pink Schedule, which can keep track of a woman's
monthly cycle.
While no official U.S. release date has been
announced, this phone's unique twists may make it a kitschy
global phenomenon.

Because the gods know women don't already have enough issues when it comes to their weight and body image. I'm not evening touching "The Pink Schedule". And they're marketing these at teenage girls. I think I'll just be over here in the corner covering my face and groaning.

This, however, made me giggle:
What a relief, the PM's saved the human race

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] odogoddess for that one.

Just got a desperate plea from one of my fellow volunteers at PAHS, she's caught a roundhead Siamese "snowshoe" (i.e. white paws) that desperately needs to be fostered or adopted. Apparently the shelter's currently full up and can't take him. I may have to respond later and offer to at least foster it for a bit. I'm concerned because I'm not sure how Kage would react to an adult male cat in the house, but he's supposedly quite mellow, a former housecat undoubtedly abandoned and living with some feral cats for a while now. On the other hand if the need is desperate and I could do it... And I've always, always wanted a Siamese... *sigh* Somebody talk me out of this before I respond to her.

I did manage to leave early yesterday and got a shitload done because of it. Pretty much everything got checked off my list, including some much needed dance time. Even got those nasty, fast growing shrub things that are invading from the neighbor's yard hacked back. Lots of grocery shopping, lots of cleaning, lots of laundry, and now I feel like the house is back in something approximating order, just in time for Aelf's return.

My plans for an early evening were thwarted by a local PBS station running a 3 hour show called The Spartans. I'm a Greek history buff and so, quite naturally, was doomed. I think I fell asleep for the last hour or so of it, and finally dragged myself to bed around midnight. It couldn't be helped, though, so I accepted my fate and actually managed to sleep pretty deeply, if not very much. Tonight I expect to be comatose the second my head hits the pillows.

That is, after getting back from dance class. With any luck we'll make both beginner's and intermediate tonight, I could certainly use the workout and the practice time.

"the Samsung SGH-T500 phone is shaped sleekly with cubic zirconium stones..."

Sounds like they spared no expense in the design...I mean, come on, cubic zirconiums? That just reeks of class and sophistication.

See, I was expecting you needed me to keep you from buying something, which I could probably have managed quite handily. Another cat, however, is a different matter entirely. I should probably be the voice of reason here, and say that Kage would react poorly and it would all go to hell, but I like Siamese too, and it would be really cool, and well. So you'll need to have someone else talk you out of it, I'm afraid.

Also, that phone? Horrifying. Bet it'll catch on like wildfire. Gah.

It's been nice up here, but I'm definitely looking forward to getting back home tonight. And class, I must needs dance. And not eat out anymore for awhile, I've been way way bad this week foodwise.

And here I was thinking that the cell phone targetting women would play up on the vibrate feature.

Well, hmm...

Sounds like the standard excessively gaudy and ugly Asian cell phone.

I mean, Elvis would be ashamed to use one of them.
