What can I say about XMen: First Class that hasn't already been said? Well maybe that I

Holy god I can't remember the last time I had that many geek-gasms in a single film. Seriously I just can't say enough good things about it. The fact that our entire row actually spontaneously cheered aloud at one of the most fantastic cameos in movie history (I won't say it here for fear of spoiling it even behind the cut, but comments are probably going to contain it so be warned), should tell you something.

What was not to love about this film? Getting to see Raven Darkholme as something more than just a femme fatale was absolutely wonderful. Baby Beast, OMG, the sheer unrelenting cute of him! Banshee with the arm wing thingies! Kurt's future dad being a mighty bad-ass. Kevin-freaking-Bacon as Sebastian Shaw and the Hellfire Club! Charles Xavier as a party boy referring to mutations as "groovy". Moira being both clever and cool and the hope that she and Charles will hook up so I can at least hope that somewhere down the line my beloved Legin gets born! Erik/Magneto as the friend we've always had hints about but never gotten to see and OMG when he realizes he's responsible for the bullet that paralyzes Charles... All I kept thinking at that moment was, "Kiss him, oh just kiss him!" I took pleasure in the thought that somewhere Ian McKellen had had the very same thought when he saw that scene.

And the whole 60's style was just OMG so perfect. I desperately want someone to put together those costumes for a con and come out the Austin Powers theme with Xavier spouting, "We're mutants, baby, yeah!" It needs to be done.

I just don't know if I have any more words to express how unbelievably awesome this movie was. Seriously, if they wanted to make me forget about X3 and start looking forward to XMen films again they certainly succeeded. Now I'm off to see if I can pre-pre-order this flick on Amazon and if anybody's already posted some Charles/Erik fic because...yum!

If you haven't seen the movie yet go. Seriously, go right now. Just stop whatever you're doing and go see this movie. Trust me.

...Why is there not already Charles/Erik fic? It's not as if they haven't been dishy since film one. I'm looking for the Darwin/Havok fics.

There has been, but not specific to this film, I want some groovy 60's sex scenes preferably with a soundtrack that will make me squee. I was kind of sad when Darwin showed up 'cause I was like, I don't know him, that guy is so dead. Also trying to figure out how Havok can be Cyclops' little brother and still fit into the timeline, though. That's a head scratcher.

BTW I'm totally making a groovy 60's mix based on the film and it would please me greatly if you did too :D

Yeah, sorry token black guy, it was nice knowing you.
And given that Banshee's not Irish any more, Angel is one of the newest X-Men instead of one of the oldest, and Professor X as I recall is British in the movies, I figure a younger brother thing isn't going to be problematic.

As far as soundtracks, I don't really know if I have very much in my library that's... groovy. Aside from some of Bitter:Sweet's second album.

I do find it amusing that for some reason they're always going to include one of the most obscure characters for no apparent reason in these flicks. I mean Angel? And not the Angel that you could actually justify being there but one who's a decidedly new (and really weird) creation. Also I didn't even recognize Riptide, they significantly changed his powers.

But the most interesting addition I thought was Azazel, who made the plot simpler (that powerful a 'porter must've been really nice for the writers), but I spent most of the time being distracted by the thought of him and Mystique hooking up and producing Kurt :)

Wait, so he's an actual character and not just "We miss Nightcrawler" animus?

Oh dude he's totally real, first time I saw him was in a Mystique mini-series that showed some of her back story plus the birth of Kurt and how he ended up with the gypsies. Although the character was originally introduced as a "demon" I think afterwards that was toned down to say that there was this ancient, powerful duality of mutants who were to be later mythologized as angels/demons.

I would so ABSOLUTELY do this. YES.

At some point this film will (probably) come to ye olde Hollywood Theatre ... and I will see it, I promise.
