Today's my last day at the office and I must admit I'm feeling a bit numb. Monday's going to be profoundly weird, as is all of next week really. I'm thinking I'll create a schedule for myself of things to do so I don't end up sitting on the couch staring at the tv all day. I still want to go hiking, I've got some serious chores piling up that need seeing to, and of course job hunting to do.

On the bright side I just got contacted out of the blue by someone regarding a contract gig that might be worth pursuing. In the short-term it's a better option than nothing and would give me a little breathing space when it comes to the bills. We'll see if it pans out. But hey, at least it's something.

A big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] cyranocyrano and [livejournal.com profile] tersa for coming over to keep me company last night. It was nice not being on my own after a somewhat emotional day and it gave me the excuse I've been craving for watching "Eastern Promises". I liked it a lot, even if a good deal of it was a little more obvious than I'd have preferred. Frankly it would've been worthwhile to me just for the naked fight scene in the steam room. More of that please!

One bit of advice I heard was to always have a 10 am appointment to do *something*. (I usually go to the library, the grocery or drug store. I know, thrilling.) If you are at loose ends next week and want a 10am appointment, I'd be happy to meet you somewhere for a nice walk, or a cup of coffee-like beverage or similar "excuse to get out of the house."

Oh I would *love* that! A walk sounds absolutely lovely :)

I've got nothing on the docket next week. Pick a day and we're yours. Any favorite places to walk?

How does Tuesday sound? You'd be my first plan for that day :) As far as walking goes I'm just as happy tooling around your neighborhood if you're good with it. I used to walk around there all the time when I lived right down the street.

I'll be here for you Tuesday! And walking the neighborhood is good. I like walking in this neighborhood. If we're really lucky, we can bother the old couple with their zimmerframe/chairs by smiling at them and waving. They seem to hate that. ;-) (I'll tell you the story of how they made a daring escape from me on water main flushing day.)

What time would work best for you?

[identity profile] tamago.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
10:00 would be best, actually, but any time after nine and before noon is good.

[identity profile] ebonlock.livejournal.com 2008-03-02 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
10:00 it is then :)

I'll second that. When I was fired a few years ago, I felt a bit lost because I had nowhere to go ... nobody needed me. It's important to have a reason to get out of bed each day beyond the instinctive "must find work" drive ... preferably something that involves friends.

I hope you get through the rest of the day okay. It's great that you might have a contract gig lined up! :-) Even if it's just to give you a little breathing space when it comes to your bills, it's a good thing.

I think you're wise to create a schedule of things to do as it will help keep you focused and prevent you from staring at the TV all day. And you should take the opportunity to do some things you want to do, like hiking.

You know what else would help? Fic. Yeah, especially a new chapter of one of my favorite fics. I think that'd take my mind off my worries quite nicely ;)

[identity profile] rusty-armour.livejournal.com 2008-02-29 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, then, I'm happy to say that I'll be posting the latest chapter tonight! :-) I'm just not sure exactly when because I'm going to be posting my monster glossary at the same time. At this point, I'm aiming for before midnight so that I can actually post in February and keep my promise. *g*

So...If you're up late, you'll be able to read it. Otherwise, it will be there for you tomorrow. :-)

You're on the east coast-ish, right? If so that means I'm 3 hours behind you so it won't even be that late after all. Hey, maybe I can read it while watching Kindred part 2 even :D

One possibility to help keep you sane while you look for work is to do some volunteering. It won't pay anything, but it will get you out of the house and give you something to do that you can at least feel good about.

[identity profile] ebonlock.livejournal.com 2008-02-29 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
An excellent suggestion, and if I'm out of work for more than 3 weeks I'm definitely going to need it.

Really hoping that something great falls in your lap soon.

When I was between jobs, I found that dancing was a great help for my sanity. It's a great way to take an hour to make yourself feel good, work out the kinks from bending over resumes, and it's free. :)

This is certainly true, and I have two new moves to try and master before next Saturday :)
