I set out to do many things this weekend, and aside from getting to class on Sunday and pulling some weeds on Saturday I pretty much accomplished none of them. Now this was not my fault, I intended to get my car's 40,000 mile maintenance done, made an appointment, talked to the service rep, everything. Of course when I drove down to the dealership the service department was closed. Yeah, locked up, no lights on, the works.

I puzzled over this, why on earth would they set me up with an appointment if they weren't going to be there? Considered that I might be too early so drove off to fill up the car then took my time driving back. By the time I returned (10 minutes after my appointment was scheduled) I noted another guy trying the doors then walking over to his car in disgust. Well, at least I wasn't the only one.

If I had even considered buying a car from these people next year, this would've convinced me not to. I'm not sure why they seem to hire mental defectives to take care of appointments and service calls, but they do. Now I've always had good luck when I go to the place on my own and talk to somebody face to face, but they've screwed up pretty much every single thing I've tried handling over the phone. From now on I make sure to get names when I talk to people 'cause somebody's going to be accountable, dammit.

Now I get to call them again (hoping I won't get hung up on as I often do) and set something up for next weekend.

GAH.

Ahem, anyway, the rain made getting all my yardwork done pretty much impossible so I settled for doing some weed removal and taking care of my potted and garden plants. I really wanted to mow the backyard as well, but you can't fight the weather gods. It is just wacky to have such cold and rainy weather in such a sustained manner this late in the year, though. Ah well, less watering for me to do and my yard is all lush and green.

Sunday morning bright and much too early Aelf and I headed off to a private class with Alyne. Her house is great and we loved her dance space (though I bumped my hand on the roof a few times) *sigh*. Started work on "Hinko", I'm getting the count down now but will be able to make it flow better once I know the musical cues. The only downside was that an hour seemed much too short and I didn't even manage to break a sweat during the whole thing. Hmm, maybe my endurance isn't quite as bad as I thought.

Did my best to sell Alyne on the concept I have for a choreography to the song "Ariadne". Not sure how successful I was in that, but I tried. She also commented that we may have been invited to both perform at the extravaganza in Desert Dance Festival, but to compete as well. Dancing two sets that entire weekend, I must be mad to even consider such a thing, but boy am I ever.

Also Alyne is now in love with organza veils which means I'll be investing in some fabric and undoubtedly making my own in the not too distant future. Fortunately dancing with chiffon makes this less of an issue for me and Aelf, we know how to make those heavier veils do what we want, but I'd still like to have some to practice with.

Anyway, again, thanks to the rain I couldn't get much accomplished yesterday either so Aelf and I finished Season 5 and got about halfway through Season 6 by last night. I'm also on the final stage of the mini-quilt my niece designed from spare fabric squares while she was visiting. If I can get some actual sewing time in this week and weekend it'll be finished. A new quilting world's record for me :) I screwed up the back, but it's too small to be used as a blanket anyway so hopefully they'll hang it up or something, in which case the backing doesn't matter.

I was really interested to see Aelf's reaction to "Far Beyond the Stars", which I've always found a fascinating concept for an episode. The writers on DS9 were, quite simply, the best. I cannot wait to see what she thinks of "In the Pale Moonlight", which we should get to before class tonight. Heh. And then, as soon as we find the time it's on to "His Way". Just thinking about that one puts a big old smile on my face. Vicarious onscreen romance *happy sigh*

I finally got how to do Egyptian downs! I didn't even know my muscles knew how! That was fairly funny. I think I was punchy and just couldn't stop laughing as Alyne tried to get me to feel an elongated side and the only way I knew how to tell my body to do it was to tip my whole torso up and sideways rather than my hips down. :)

ANyway, maybe we should make the sessions longer...'cause it definitely did fly with all three of us there!! I think some of Aelf's visual planning rubbed off...I had this image if we're doing the air theme of a sunset when we're doing...oh, what's that move that looks like a pinwheel...it's flashy and pretty, but not a cyclone...
anyway...when the veils are doing circles of having different shades of blue in the background being the night sky and brighter colors for people int eh front row of for a sort of dying sunset effect...

Aelf really needs to show you her sunset-colored organza veils, she really does. And yeah an "airplane" with those would look incredible and I definitely think we should add at least one, possibly two to the piece. I think it would be cool to just work out a choreography and present our concept to Alyne and see what she thinks of it. [livejournal.com profile] silkblade is coming over on Sunday so we can show her what we learned of "Hinko", but also to help us start figuring out "Ariadne". If you could join us that would be very cool. But if not I could make you a copy of the song and give you what we come up with choreography-wise.
