ebonlock: (Bollocks!)
I know everybody's already posted a link to this but I just can't resist. The sheer mendacity of it is mind boggling:

In a spectacular act of complicity with the religious right, the Department of Health and Human Services Monday released a proposal that allows any federal grant recipient to obstruct a woman's access to contraception. In order to do this, the Department is attempting to redefine many forms of contraception, the birth control 40% of Americans use, as abortion. Doing so protects extremists under the Weldon and Church amendments. Those laws prohibit federal grant recipients from requiring employees to help provide or refer for abortion services.

Surprising? Well only in that they didn't do this back in the days when everyone was still happily agreeing that Emperor Bush did indeed have clothes and didn't they look superb? Very flattering and manly. I'm just wondering why they waited until now. Is it meant to help boost McCain's street cred with the fundies? It's the only thing I can figure at this point. That or it's a last ditch effort by Bush to get all his pet projects through before his infamous reign comes to an end.

And on a totally unrelated note, watching Avatar on Nick has given me the opportunity to catch up on the world of children's advertising. I just discovered that the Lucky Charms Leprechaun has acquired his own version of Obi-Wan. A Leprechaun Jedi Master is something I could have lived without...
