Oh my god what a weekend, I think I'm still recovering from it and coupled with a move at work I am somewhat less than in top form. But I think I have my desk mostly situated, though I hate the office set up. My back is to the door and we have a glass wall so I feel like I'm on display all day. I swear I'm as twitchy as an old CIA operative, I like having my back to the wall, it makes me feel secure and it's much less distracting. Every time someone walks behind me (and my office is right in the middle of the main thoroughfare) I glance over. *sigh*

Still, I have an office and that's a step up in the world, even if I do share it with one other person.

Anyway, weekend update briefly. The Violent Femmes are definitely a band you must see live at least once before you die. Trust me, you'll regret it if you don't. They were superb and did pretty much every song I'd wanted to hear, though the crowd would've undoubtedly shed blood had they not come back out for the obligatory "Add It Up" encore. Got home exceedingly late after a detour through Berkeley and then up bright and early for lunch and "Underworld" with [livejournal.com profile] cyranocyrano. I think the concensus was that it was a very silly movie that looked like the best funded Vampire the Masquerade LARP ever. I think it would've been a fun campaign to play in, but had way too many plot holes for a film. Pretty, silly, but not worth full price.

Later on Aelf and I cooked and C- joined us again for a little Sherlock Holmes as I'd gotten my copy of "The Sign of Four". Mmm, Sherlock-y.

Crashed early and was up to take Pye to his first vet's visit. Pye doesn't like his carrier and it took two of us to get him into it. He was quite restrained at the vet, who pronounced him healthy if a bit banged up (apparently he's lost some teeth at some point), and described him as "built like a bulldog". Pye's up to ten pounds and all muscle, which made me feel like a good cat mommy.

Went home and worked my ass off inside then did a good deal of yardwork. Probably not the brightest decision given the heat, but it felt really good to get it done. The peaches have been banished and the weeds mostly pulled. Then came in and finished up some odds and ends around the house before showering and collapsing to work on my costume. By that point sewing was about the most exertion I was up for. Also watched a mesmerizing BBC production called "The Second Coming", which I don't think could've ever gotten made here in the states. Basically it's the story of a regular guy named Steve who disappears for 40 days and turns up on the Yorkshire moors claiming to be the son of god. I just couldn't stop watching it, it was that good. Even taped it when they played it again. I highly, highly recommend this movie.

Sunday was volunteering and then Desert Dance Festival which was as wonderful as ever. Did some fairly serious shopping then enjoyed a lot of great dancing. [livejournal.com profile] xleste put together her first costume with a little help from Aelf and I and it's going to look stunning on her (then again, what doesn't?). Then [livejournal.com profile] silkblade joined us and we shopped some more. She got this gorgeous two piece outfit in a silvery gray color that made us all quite jealous. Then Aelf and I went to grab some dinner at House of Siam. It was a bad night for service, for some reason our table kept getting overlooked, but my god the food. Hopefully the service isn't that bad all the time, because it's really the only negative thing I can think of to say about the place. We then jogged back to the festival and caught the "extravaganza" whose theme this year was fire. Watching all the pros get up there and put on a dazzling show was well worth the wait. And we whooped and cheered like crazy people when Alyne got up there to do her "red flame" piece. She grinned when she heard us losing it over her version of "Tic Tic". We stayed after the show and talked for a bit then zoomed home to feed our starving cats and melt slowly in front of a few fans.

And aside from moving offices yesterday and class last night that was about it. It sounds like we're going to be up to her eyeballs in recitals and performance nights in October and right on through January. There's a cool gig at a restaurant in Santa Cruz then that I'm really looking forward to.
