We got us a convoy
Oct. 28th, 2003 08:44 amQuick shoutout to
windrose for the box o' Halloween goodies which Aelf and I adored. I am especially in love with the witch rubber ducky. Way too cute for words, thank you dear!
Work went pretty quickly yesterday and I managed to avoid the birthday fudge brownies with caramel sauce (I believe that qualifies me for sainthood in most religions, yes?) and stuck to my 110 calorie Kudos bars for a quick chocolate fix. I almost relented and had one using the rationalization "I'll work it off in class" but managed to resurrect my willpower just in time. I will get back into shape, I will, I will, I will!
Zoomed home early to go pick up Kage, who seemed very happy to see me. That was gratifying as for about two weeks now she's been kind of like, "Oh, it's you. How nice." As long as her food bowl was full the monkeys could just sod off where she was concerned. Some of that I'm now chalking up to the early stages of her illness. Apparently the bacterial infestation was effecting most of her abdomen and the vet was astonished that she recovered so quickly and well.
I was so delighted with her recovery that I didn't throttle the man when he told me he'd been feeding her soft food. I did groan a bit in the car, though, as I knew this would mean she'd be expecting it when we got home. I'll pick her up some tonight and use it to hide her pill in. Much easier than attempting to ram it down her throat. Safer too.
The bill for this little excursion was rather jaw-droppingly high. But I happily paid it and decided that this means my discretionary money for the next two months has dropped to about zero. No more eating out or extra expenses, and absolutely no more purchases for myself until after the holidays. I'm allowing myself the $10 I had set aside for class on Thursday to spend at the Temple Gathering party that night instead, but I think the Middle Earth ball is right out. On the plus side this gives me a great impetus to stay home and do a proper ritual on Friday evening, which I've been meaning to for years now. A hot bath and a little quality time with my gods sounds awfully nice.
Aelf and I then ran off to class where Alyne had us working on a new routine she's putting together. I think a while back I mentioned that she'd spoken to us about a big event wherein belly dancers would be performing a number with Chinese Lion Dancers. We got to see the routine and hear the music to be danced to. It is very, very cool. I'm finding that I actually do have some ambitions where dance is concerned, and doing this show is one of them. It'll take some hard work, but I'd really love to do it.
The routine is a killer, really fast and lots of tricky angles. The samihas are ridiculously speedy, but the real trick is the footwork of course, if I can nail that the rest will fall into place. It turned out to be a great workout and it loosened up my lower back, which had been killing me all day.
After class we gave B- a ride home and she invited us in to see her home. Wow. Gorgeous place and the deck she plans to have a hafla on is huge and perfect for it! We chatted for a bit about this hafla she wants to throw and about the senior center post-Halloween party she invited us to attend and perform at. Then she played us a video of her and Alyne performing at this ballroom competition. The ballroom folks seemed a bit perplexed when watching two belly dancers perform, but they were fun and seemed to warm to it pretty quickly. It was a nicely made video and makes me that much more intrigued to see the one they filmed of us performing.
Came home to find two very lonely, needy kitties. Before Aelf got home they'd been following me around the house like a little cat convoy. When I'd coo over Kage, Pye would yowl like his heart was breaking. It was hard to resist making a fuss over her, though. She's so affectionate right now that I want to take advantage of it.
Climbed into bed just dead tired, and about three seconds later Kage leapt up, crawled up to my face and then pushed her way under the blankets to lay down purring with her head on my arm. I'm so glad to have my baby back. :)
