(no subject)

A couple of quick things in another busy week. First Hachi actually rubbed up against Kage for the first time the other day and my first thought was, "Well I guess I'm going to be down to 3 cats..." Kage, though, seemed so stunned by the move that it took her a second to react with an angry hiss and attempted swipe. Speaking of Kage she's been feeling her oats lately. She's demanding her meals again and I found her sleeping on Hachi's rocking chair rather than her usual chair this morning. Interestingly it's not a very easy one for her to get into. She also got into the living room window the other day and is starting to sleep on the back of the couch. I have no idea what's going on but I'm loving it.

Second, if anyone, and I mean anyone needs any herbs please let me know. If you're local I can get them to you fresh, if you're not, they'll have to be dried. Seriously, rosemary, basil, thyme, sage, every variety of mint imaginable, even rare stuff like hyssop, really just say the word. Also the tiny little organic strawberry plant I got months ago has gone bug-nuts (yeah I know, shocking) and is producing lots of lovely, big red strawberries. The scary thing is I'm actually contemplating buying more plants. Yes, I know, there's something very, very wrong with me.

And finally, I heard about this on NPR today and had to check it out, it's one of the most charming things I've seen in ages:

I would love some of the dried herbs. I will pay for the shipping.

Any in particular or should I just send you what I think will survive the trip best?

[identity profile] missjones.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
definitely sage, rosemary, basil and thyme and then anything else you think it would make it.

Sage, rosemary and thyme will dry well but not basil I'm afraid :(

I would love a couple branches of rosemary. I've been itching to make some fresh bread and I love the rosemary variety, especially with fresh herbs in it. Can you bring them on Friday?

[identity profile] ebonlock.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Will do. Don't suppose you'd like a little rosemary plant? I've got one of those and a little marjoram in need of a good home. Also you remember that orchid you gave me eons ago? It's now 3 separate plants so if you're at all interested...

*sigh* Have you seen the state of plants at my house lately? Everything dies. Or is eaten. Or murdered. I would love the plants, but you would be sending them to an early grave.

Let me ponder that and see if I can come up with something that might just survive your kitties and possibly even thrive in that environment...

Well I can show you the few plants that are (mostly) surviving in our kitchen window if you want a hint or two. :)

Spider plants, do you have any spider plants? They might just be your salvation.

Runs in the family.

I think I have the exact opposite problem. Is there something beyond a green thumb?

[identity profile] elenderel.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Beyond green thumb? Perhaps shades of green. Kelly green, forest green, emerald green ... idk. FWIW, forest green's my favorite - I'm knitting a shrug with some lovely deep dark green that a certain hobbit gifted me with a couple of months ago at a mid-winter CrafTea event :)
