Hard as lightening, soft as candlelight
Any Phantom of the Opera fans out there? Just got this tidbit from a pal back home:

Really like the unknowns casting (goodbye Antonio Banderas, bwah-ha-ha!), and the second Christine choice is far and away my fave. Here's hoping!

I wonder why not Michael Crawford though for Phantom!
Antonio Banderas..ACK! I'm really glad they're going with relative unknowns.
I hope the ladies can sing! I just can't imagine anyone else having the soaring voice of Sarah Brightman...though that "soaring" sense is most tangible when in actual concert with her, though that's not stopped me from owning all of her CDs.
I wish Phantom would come back to the Bay Area. I dearly love to see it yet again...This has raised a hankering in me to find out what local musicals are around. I've missed theater.

Re:
No way!!! Oh man I'm so there, no matter what it costs!
Twisted every way, what answer can I give....
I splurged on getting tix for Brad's birthday to "Wicked", as neither of us have seen it yet. It'd be wonderful to see Phantom though...must reassess finances.
In the meantime, will control craving by playing the soundtrack over and over. It was the first musical I ever fell in love with...I used to drive my family crazy by screeching it out before I ever got voice lessons. :)
Sarah Brightman is just amazing. I've seen her in concert twice, and was just blown away by her voice both times. The first concert was more of her classical repetoire, and the 2nd, music from La Luna.

It's pretty rare that they'll go with the stage performer when they make something like this, although Crawford actually has done some film work.

Heh, and I thought I was the only Sarah Brightman junkie out here *G* She's still my favorite Christine, but I saw this one who performed in Toronto, named Susan Cuthbert, who'd be a close second. She was the only Christine who used a blonde wig instead of brunette and was *magnificent*. Just jaw-droppingly good. It helped that she was paired with a fantastic Phantom (Paul something I'm blanking on his last name), and their "Point of No Return" made the entire audience forget to breathe.

Haven't seen Phantom in years, though I've seen it performed in NY, Toronto and London, and been backstage (and onstage) for the Toronto one. If you haven't heard the Toronto cast recording I highly recommend it, it's superb!
