Smack my bitch up
Which would be a grand summation of what the Sharks did to the Avs last night, though after that first goal at the beginning of the first period things could have gone the other way in a big hurry. Thankfully they did not, and the Sharks spanked them good and proper on home ice to an enthusiastic response from the crowd. I was actually bouncing up and down and crowing with glee with Marleau put the game away, I'd been chanting "Marleau needs a goal." for a good hour and then, voila, he does it. Ok, now I'm getting the Marleau jersey.
The only downside of the entire game was the two ESPN announcers acting like hormonal school girls over Colorado. They'd rave over any little thing an Av did while completely ignoring the incredible play of Owen Nolan, and the dogged determination of Ricci, not to mention the sniper-like accuracy of Teemu Selanne. If a puck made it past Roy they'd wail and gnash their teeth like it was a sign of the apocalypse. Yeah, he's a great goalie, no question, but he's not the son of god. Actually he's a fucker, but not quite as big a one as Blake. Oh I want Marchment to wipe that smarmy smirk off his face at some point this round.
Oh I should mention that I didn't get to class last night after all. At 6 I got nervous about my ride showing up so I gave her a call. Turns out I woke her up. Ah well, at least it gave me a chance to get some laundry done, and with the way my week's going, that's probably for the best. And I got to watch the entire game which made me happy. I also took some time to practice the veil moves we'd learned in the last class I attended and did about 30 extra abdominal exercises so the night wouldn't be a total bust. I also finished my mom's afghan and got back to work on my own. I'd say I'm about 2/3 of the way through mine, go me!

"Silly me thought, until this evening, that the purpose of ESPN commentators was to both call the play-by-play and provide context for the game. Now that I've seen Darren Pang and Steve Levy call game 3 of the Western Conference semifinal between Colorado and San Jose, I understand that the aim of commentary is to provide a love-fest atmosphere for whomever is the favorite team of the commentators.
"Look, it's indisputable that the Avalanche are a terrific team with a lot of skilled players. It's indisputable that Rob Blake is an elite defenseman, one of the best in the NHL.
"But it's also indisputable that there are *two* teams playing in the game tonight. If Pang and Levy can't supply more even-handed commentary about a hockey game, then perhaps they ought to be behind a desk rather than behind a mike."
