Smack my bitch up

Which would be a grand summation of what the Sharks did to the Avs last night, though after that first goal at the beginning of the first period things could have gone the other way in a big hurry. Thankfully they did not, and the Sharks spanked them good and proper on home ice to an enthusiastic response from the crowd. I was actually bouncing up and down and crowing with glee with Marleau put the game away, I'd been chanting "Marleau needs a goal." for a good hour and then, voila, he does it. Ok, now I'm getting the Marleau jersey.

The only downside of the entire game was the two ESPN announcers acting like hormonal school girls over Colorado. They'd rave over any little thing an Av did while completely ignoring the incredible play of Owen Nolan, and the dogged determination of Ricci, not to mention the sniper-like accuracy of Teemu Selanne. If a puck made it past Roy they'd wail and gnash their teeth like it was a sign of the apocalypse. Yeah, he's a great goalie, no question, but he's not the son of god. Actually he's a fucker, but not quite as big a one as Blake. Oh I want Marchment to wipe that smarmy smirk off his face at some point this round.

Oh I should mention that I didn't get to class last night after all. At 6 I got nervous about my ride showing up so I gave her a call. Turns out I woke her up. Ah well, at least it gave me a chance to get some laundry done, and with the way my week's going, that's probably for the best. And I got to watch the entire game which made me happy. I also took some time to practice the veil moves we'd learned in the last class I attended and did about 30 extra abdominal exercises so the night wouldn't be a total bust. I also finished my mom's afghan and got back to work on my own. I'd say I'm about 2/3 of the way through mine, go me!

Crunches: 90 regular + 30 abdominal twists
Hockey Fandom Level: willing to bear Marleau's child

...and I'm betting with the way you look in those bellydancing outfit pics, he'd willing agree. Mraoow!

Angie and I are planning on putting in jersey orders in June after I get back; want in on it, to share shipping costs?

As much as I like ESPN's website, some of the announcers are rabidly biased--East Coast, big name teams. Which is why I like Barry Melrose, who has been on the Sharks bandwagon for several years now, and John Buccigross, who will also go on record to toot the Sharks' horn.

I'm so sorry you missed class, and wish you could've gone to the game. You *need* to go to a playoff game, if you can get a ticket later

I think what bugs me the most about Rob Blake is not the smarmy grin (though I'd pay good money to see someone like Marchment wipe it right off his face), but the "my shit smells like potpourri" attitude. Rob Blake is one of the (thankfully few) NHL players who actually seems to believe his own press.

There was one moment in the game last night where he tripped Ricci to earn a penalty. The Sharks shot the puck in low, Ricci went for it, and Blake got a knee up and a stick between Ricci's legs, and Ricci went ass-over-teakettle.

It wasn't like Blake skated over and blatantly decked his defensive assignment, and possibly unintentional -- he is a defenseman, after all, and his job is to keep the other team's forwards from getting to the puck -- and maybe Ricci even embellished a little. But it was a trip, and the official's arm goes up, and eventually play stops. It was the right call, and I don't just say that out of homerism.

Blake, as he's skating over to the box, is shaking his head and complaining about the "bullshit penalty", as if the evil, mean-spirited officials are just out to get poor, innocent, misunderstood Rob who gives money to orphanages and helps little old ladies across the street and would never sink to actually tripping somebody like those low-brow, Neanderthal Sharks.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn that Steve Levy and Darren Pang actually did blow him after the game.

I'm glad you got to watch the game, though sorry you couldn't be there. Hm, I think I just might need a Ricci jersey sometime. I like his "never say die" attitude that always gives everything his absolute best.

I watched the game off my Tivo and they did seem a bit homerish...

But, honestly, what do you expect? Colorado has all the big name, big money players. Everyone knows how great they are. What are the Sharks going to counter with? Mike Ricci's hair and "who the hell is Patrick Marleau?"

So. I'm not that surprised.
