The annual holiday plea

So once again I ask those friends and family members to not get me more stuff and, if they'd really like to spend money in a way that will please me, donate it in my name instead. Need to know where I'd love to see a donation go this year? Well here ya go:

The Red Cross is doing some great work to help the survivors of the Bangladesh cyclone and I'd love to see a donation go to assist in that.

Second Harvest is addressing a very real and very distressing problem, hunger in our country. The numbers of people who are going hungry in the US are rising and food banks are feeling the strain so I'd love to see a little assistance sent their way.

I've been a big fan of the work Farm Sanctuary does for years, and donating to help save farm animals and spread the word about the joys of vegetarianism would make me oh so happy!

And of course, in little Alpha's name, I'm always happy to see donations go to Wildlife Rescue.

I just had to look up who Alpha was. OMG so cute! So what happened the next day, after you had gotten him in the cage? I don't see any further posts with the Squirrel tag.

Oops, this almost got out of control. I thought maybe other posts were f-locked, so I went to your Profile to make sure I was on your f-list, and while I was there I saw the mention of Scale of Dragon, Tooth of Wolf and remembered how much I liked it, and then I was noticing that maybe I hadn't read all of these other fics listed...

At which time, thank heavens, I gave myself a good smack, because I HAVE to get to bed, and the fics will be there tomorrow...

Alas Alpha died on the second night. I wasn't knowledgeable enough about baby squirrels and I didn't keep him warm enough. I comfort myself with the knowledge that at least he didn't die alone and scared and hungry. He had a good few meals, some nice clean water, and a little affection before he passed, so that's something.

Oh gods, now you've actually got me considering giving money to Wildlife Rescue!

They're a really good organization that rescues a lot of different creatures every year, though they specialize in baby squirrels. It just breaks my heart to this day that I didn't find out about them until after he died. If I'd known the night I found him I'd have brought him directly there and he'd undoubtedly be alive today.

That is an admirable request, and so in-line with the true spirit of the season.
