Someday in America?

via Rising Hegemon:

Yesterday, Spain, following on the heels of Canada, approved Gay Marriage.

This was despite the strong opposition of the Catholic Church.

Telling are the polls which show that 7 out of 10 spaniards supported legalizing Gay Marriage.

This movement cannot be stopped, the right-wing surge is going to recede and this, and other progressive steps will come.

Let's hope it starts in 2006, I think it will.

It just saddens me that America can't be at the head of this movement rather than trailing along sullenly behind.

You mean like they are in the greenhouse gas emissions? Like they are on the death penalty? Like they are on the land mine issue? Like they were on slavery? Like....

Can't you let me have just this one little dream? Not that the fundies haven't already tromped all over it with their big dirty boots, of course.

Bah. You reality-based lefties can't have it both ways. You flip floppers want so-called 'facts' *and* dreams!

Yes, well, considering GWB and co are head of the "Gays are TEH EVOL!!!!" committee, and the media are falling all over themselves to spout party line... I somehow doubt ANYTHING will happen on this until enough "someones" in the United States band together and say "Enough is enough!" and vote these morons out of office.

That's when it will START.

Of course, with this moron in charge of the United States and one of his stooges in charge of Florida and another in charge of California... it may be a while.

Ahh but California may be ditching ours sooner rather than later. Many folks are beginning to show some serious buyer's remorse out here.

Hmm...isn't Spain one of the countries that pulled out of the "war on terror"? It's looking like a lovelier place to live by the minute.

They also removed a corrupt government that had lied to the people regarding a terrorist attack...hmm...

I'd be happy if we were trailing along sullenly behind. IMO, we're being painfully dragged and several of the rightwing extremists, religious conservatives us are dragging their heels and grabbing at Bu$hes to impede our progress.

Still, the way I see it is that the scales need balancing. They swung WAY to the right and kind of stuck. Just one little thing will start the swing back down.
