Sore in interesting places

One of the things I find endlessly fascinating about belly dancing is the fact that when I've really pushed myself and danced I end up with sore muscles in places I didn't even think I had muscles! So today I'll move wrong, start to yip "Ow!" and then pause to ponder exactly what muscle or muscle group is complaining and finish with a surprised, "Huh." Strangely enough I think I like it. I mean I'm working muscles that no other kind of exercise would touch, this just strikes me as cool.

So despite some trepedation on Aelf's part during class last night I think she kind of got into it. She definitely seemed to like Shira (particularly when the instructor paused to give her a thumb's up on her moves) and she looked fabulous! Class 1 started as they usually do with some "sexy hip sways" to get all the ladies in the right frame of mind for what came next. It was ribcage slides and circles a'plenty, and we were all feeling it by the end of class. I'm already bouncing to learn the choreography and performing on August 4 is starting to seem both realistic and exciting!

Ez and I then stayed for part two, which was a much smaller class, maybe a dozen people, of which only three of us were newbies. Can I just start out by saying that double veil is a damned hard technique to learn? I mean controlling one veil is tough, two is almost impossible. Ok, imagine if you will picking up two three yard pieces of fabric, now tuck one side into the back of your dance belt/skirt. Now spin..a lot. Ok, now untuck and spin with one veil in each hand. Now while spinning grab one veil behind your back with your left hand, and the other in front with your right so you're in between the two veils. Continue to spin. Now try to do this while sticking to a specific choreography, and remember not to throw up.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Oh maybe a little. Too stubborn to give up? Definitely. And frankly some part of me seems to be enjoying the challenge. Now if I still can't seem to get this by the end of class I'll probably admit defeat, but for now I'm sticking to it happily.

And soon I shall have a yard in which I can spin to my heart's content!

Speaking of which, hopefully we will have our keys by next week. This being the case we will be looking for wonderful, generous people to help us lug things from one location to the other. Anyone who will have any free time of the next few weeks and would like to volunteer please let me know when you'll be available, this can be weekends or week nights (except Tuedays) and I'll make my schedule flexible to accomodate you. All assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Crunches: You're kidding, right?
Sore Muscles: Too many to list.

hehe! I'm not sore, but I was definitely feeling a bit funky for a while. I am gonna be sure to drag the chewable dramamine into my bag so that it makes it to class. It was a good recommendation, especially since I'm prone to motion sickness.

it was SO MUCH FUN, but man, i feel totally lame for not even being able to get the veils up properly. Much less the 'grab the front, grab the back' bit. Oh yeah, and let's not forget 'duck between the veils' part.

I keep trying to tell myself that I'll get this eventually but I'm not very convincing *G* Hey, at least we did confirm that we can walk and play zills at the same time }:)

Gee, um, I think I'm busy that day. I have to... do something. Meet with somebody. All day. Really busy.

I would be happy to help. Please feel free to call on me. I've got a strong back and plenty of energy.

I'm pretty sure Erik will help after he's recovered from this weekend.

BTW - I hope your birthday was joyous!
