Meep!

6/6/02 Diesel Throws out Second Pitch

Vin Diesel will be back as the ultimate bad a** in Riddick, Universal’s sequel to the effects laden sci-fi thriller Pitch Black, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Pitch Black introduced the character Riddick as a hardened inmate from a prison devoid of light. For self-protection, he had a "shine job" done on his eyes to allow him to see in the dark, an ability that comes in handy as he is shipwrecked on a planet inhabited by carnivorous nocturnal CGI beasties and even nastier fellow survivors.

Writer-director David Twohy will be back to helm the sequel, which will reportedly focus on Riddick surviving in a universe where greed and corruption rule. Principal photography is slated to begin by year’s end. Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) and David Hayter have been attached as writers, with Twohy currently in re-writes. The film will be produced by Tom Engleman and Scott Kroopf of Radar Pictures. Diesel's producing partner George Zakk will executive produce with Radar's Ted Field.

The best news about the picture (which is planned for next summer, last I heard) is that Goldsman is no longer attached. (insert screams of joy here) Hayter wouldn't have been too bad, but Goldsman would've been intolerable. They're instead reverting to Twohy's original pitch. Whooooo!

I suppose something good eventually came of his losing the 'Hellboy' job.
Still. *sigh*

Vin Diesel is a D&D player, apparently. Or was, at least.

Haven't found too much yet, but: here and here. Just not awake enough to look further, though I haven't found references to him being a big fan of 3rd ed, which is what started all of this.

Apparently, Michelle Rodriquez played when she was younger, too. ^_^; All this just amuses the hell out of me

I'm assuming [livejournal.com profile] windrose knows about this, if she didn't tell you about it herself. I had dismissed the original as yet another space horror movie but http://members.aol.com/plaidpunk07/ piqued my interest.
