Did indeed see "Bubba Ho-Tep" Friday evening at the Camera 7 (nice theater, btw) and I would recommend it. Not a great film, but certainly fun. Just don't expect Evil Dead and you'll be fine. Oh and stay through the end of the credits, you'll be glad you did.

Saturday is a bit of a blur to me, but I have a tidy yard and clean carpets, and I got most of my errands accomplished. Feeling pretty good about that overall. Also received my region-free DVD player which kicks such serious ass. I'm currently torn between it and my steam cleaner as most beloved appliance. I can't even tell you what a beautiful picture it produces, and popping in any kind of disc and having it work immediately makes me so happy. The fact that I got it hooked up and working without having to do a lot of cable switching or having to disconnect any current piece of electronic equipment astonishes me. Fear my A/V skillz!

Yesterday was volunteering then off for lunch with elo_sf, phillipalden, and jakejr up in Berkeley. Nice Chinese food and an afternoon of delightful company, who could ask for more?

Zoomed home and hit the grocery store. Note to self: do not go to the store on a weekend afternoon, instead shove bamboo under your own fingernails, it's a more pleasant experience. By the time I got home and put everything away then watered the lawn I had enough energy to collapse on the couch and veg for a while. The cats adored this and weirdly enough I ended up with Kage on my legs and Pye on my abdomen. A sure sign of the second coming? Hard to say.

Two media related comments and then I'll shut up. One, Masterpiece Theatre's "Warrior Queen" about the life and death of Boudica was one of the most embarassing things I've seen in a long time. When Xena does a better take on the heroic figure than MT does, you just have to sigh and shake your head. Secondly, BBC America is showing one of the most incredible series I have ever had the pleasure of seeing Saturday evenings. It's called "Tipping the Velvet". I have such a mad crush on the star Rachael Stirling it's not even funny. But just look at this picture and tell me you wouldn't be. And my god when she's dressed up as a young soldier boy...yum!
Apparently I missed episode one. Ah well, guess I'll just have to buy the series...when it becomes available again *sigh*

Hey, we just happen to be reading "Tipping the Velvet" in my Turn of the Century Representations of Sexuality course. Of course we are also reading some rather dreadful little literary nightmares (ie: Lady Chatterly's Lover) so I guess it all equals out. I wish I had caught the series when it was on.

Keep in mind that you are rather privledged to have BBC America...a-hem because the real BBC over here is utter crap. They play freaking "Pop Idol" and "Pop Idol Extra" round the clock or weird movies from the 1970's starring Joan Collins. I recall when Chris and I were here for Christmas (when the whole city just seems to shut down for weeks!) we were stuck watching "Who slew Auntie Roo" starring a very outrageously hideous Shelley Winters...yow!

On the bright side we did get to see "His Girl Friday" on the big screen last night at the Cine Lumiere! Tomorrow night is movie 3 in the special Billy Wilder retrospective at the Starlight Cinema at Canary Wharf which should be splendid as well...so I guess although television is less than inspirational at least the flickers are dreamy!
