Fun, fun, fun!
Fun facts for today:
When one is put on hold, after having called the NHL offices in NY, rather than music one hears radio broadcast recordings of games.
Fun article for today:
WHAT IS IT ABOUT HARRY?
Michael Bronski, Boston Phoenix
Evangelicals who are all worked up about Harry Potter's celebration of magic
and the occult are on to something. The kid may just be queer, in the broadest sense.

I am so spacey today it's not even funny. Partially I blame Kage who insisted on sleeping with me all night. Alas, what is cute and nice at 10 pm is a good deal less so at 3 in the morning. Repeatedly informing her that clawing at the blankets so she could crawl underneath was not acceptable at that hour of the morning, had little to no effect. *sigh*
I'm going to be kneeling at the altar of caffeine today, no question.
Something of note happened last night that I'll share with everyone. I was coming home late from dance class and had just turned onto a local side street when I saw something small and dark dart towards my car. Figuring it was a squirrel, I swerved a bit to avoid it. It was then that my brain caught up with my eyes and realized what I was seeing was a very young kitten, possibly not even weaned yet. Then I realized there were two more right behind it. Pulling over I walked back and the two black ones scampered away. The little gray and white wasn't so fast and stayed a few feet away from me. Unfortunately it ran into a closed car dealer's lot and I lost track of it under the cars.
The fact that they were out on their own suggests that they're strays and quite possibly feral, though young enough to socialize to human companionship if they're taken in now. I've made it a sort of mini-mission to find them and try to catch them before any of the 3 becomes roadkill. I think I'll take a stroll around the neighborhood tonight and see if I can track them down.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT HARRY?
I think he concentrated on the 'connotations with the gay culture' overly much, but it at least served to illustrate an aspect of the books I hadn't really thought about--that at their heart, she is making normal look 'dirty' and celebrating being different. Which, given my own childhood, is wonderfully refreshing.
Re: WHAT IS IT ABOUT HARRY?
I think it's a major part of the appeal of the books really, and one of the reasons I wish they'd been around when I was growing up.
Re: WHAT IS IT ABOUT HARRY?
I hadn't really thought of it like that, but, yeah! It does.
And, yeah, I wish they'd been around when I was growing up, too. :} I grew up feeling like a weirdo because I was the only one of maybe three people I knew who read fantasy.
aw kitten...
