So I'm two episodes in to "Leverage" and I like it. Don't love it, but I do like it and I'll probably keep watching. I've got the first 6 eps so I'll finish those up at the very least. I keep waiting for Timothy Hutton to impress me, but so far he seems to be the weakest link on the series.

On the other hand a show I just stumbled upon that rather kicked my ass is the UK show "Demons". Imagine if you will Buffy the Vampire Slayer with, and I shit you not, Gene Hunt in the role of Giles. You may think I'm exaggerating here but Philip Glenister is one of the stars of the show and yes he is basically playing Giles. His first name is even Rupert.

The basic concept is that a young man living a normal life is suddenly introduced to his rather odd godfather who presents him with his destiny. In this case, he's told he's the last of the Van Helsings and was born to fight creatures from the "Half-Life" with the help of his warrior godfather, the Van Helsing library/weapons cache, Mina Harker (now a blind musician) and his pal Ruby. It's definitely got the Torchwood monster of the week feel to it, but I've only seen one ep so far so maybe they'll introduce some larger story arcs.

The show's not, you know, great tv or anything, but it's charming, well-paced, is a rather well conceived shout out to Buffy and has a rockin' soundtrack. It basically had me from the theme song and kept my attention all the way through, not too many shows can do that these days.

BTW, [livejournal.com profile] elo_sf, the lead is pretty hot and spends at least a couple of scenes shirtless. Just sayin' ;)

If you follow Kung Fu Monkey at all, the show is even better, because all the drama and trauma of making it has been chronicled from the outset =)

must check Demon; leverage leaves me MEH, the more I watch the more MEH. "Hustle" from the UK does Leverage better and was there first and doesn't try to cloak it all in goodie-two-shoe-ism.
