Mildly longing for death

Have I mentioned lately how much I hate it when my lower back goes out? It's an old injury that acts up about once a year or so, lasts for a week or two and then seems to take care of itself. Sitting for extended periods of time in a computer chair is absolute hell, indeed the only way to relieve pain entirely is to lie flat on my back. However, there are repurcussions for this as I realize the minute I try to move after being in said position. Shooting pains in the back and down my left leg.

I shouldn't complain, though, as last year it left me alone entirely and my upper back decided to go wonky instead. I'm not sure which is worse to tell you the truth. All I know is that I got about an hour of quality sleep last night and if I didn't have so many damned reports to write today and a very important meeting to attend I'd have called in. As it is, unless the back miraculously fixes itself in the next 8 hours or so I won't be going to class tonight. This peeves me greatly as I love Una's class and hate to miss it. At least Shira's is cancelled this week so I won't feel like I'm missing anything if I veg tomorrow. Must get an ice pack or two on my way home tonight. That and maybe snag some Advil from the roommate, we shall see.

I had a quiet, but fulfilling weekend and those are often my favorite kind. I must thank cyrano for having the delightful idea to do some gardening on Saturday. I never feel better than when I'm up to my wrists in nice rich soil. Though I was mildly traumatized by the number of ants existing in that small patio space. I expected them to mass and turn on us at any second in a kind of miniature version of "Them". I'm wondering how the strawberries are doing and seriously considering picking myself up one of those thyme plants. Mmmm.

Then it was "Six String Samurai", which told me where two of the quotes my sis had used on a favorite mix she made me came from. Both:
"If I were you, I'd run!"
"If you were me, you'd be good lookin'."
and
"Nice tuxedo...nice tuxedo to die in!"
This amused me greatly.

Then we watched "Wild Zero", a Japanese, rock-n-roll, UFO, flesh eating zombie flick. It was nice to watch something in which all of life's answers came down to a single exclamation, "Rock-n-roll!!!!"
When in doubt, scream that, comb your hair, and then find a cute transsexual and you're all set.

Went home that night and collapsed in the heat, and revelled in the idea of sleeping in on Sunday. I was so out of it that morning that I didn't even hear the roommate get up and leave. I'd just woken up when she returned, and had about enough energy left to get some laundry done. The bed is finally changed and the flannel sheets tucked neatly away for next year. Of course if I'd known we were going to get this arctic front last night and today I might have rethought that concept.

I spent most of the day being lazy, then decided to grab my roommate and whisk her off for a movie-viewing and some Afghan food. To continue the zombie trend we watched "Resident Evil" which was fun in a brainless sort of way. I liked the tough chickie with the guns, I found her slightly more appealing than Milla who didn't really have a character per se, just a cute hair style and some very nice boots. The outfit, though...

Anyhow, we grabbed h0h0 and mallen for the latter's long anticipated birthday dinner. Afghan house was delightful, as always, even if h0h0 had already eaten. We kept one another entertained during the long wait for dinner, and then chowed down. All I can say is, Yum! Then it was Coldstone's for ice cream for the crew, even h0h0 participated in that, and I enjoyed it vicariously as a) I'm still trying to get into shape and b) lactose and I don't really get along. It was my first trip to Coldstone, though, and I found it quite charming. The boys behind the counter were far too chirpy for a Sunday evening, but they seemed to be enjoying themselves so I just smiled back and joked around with them.

Then the roomie and I ran back to my car and drove home with the heater on. It's amazing to me that the day before I'd be using the AC, I thought weather only changed that quickly back in Syracuse. Guess not.

Now I need to dig through my drawers and see if I horded away a bottle of Tylenol around here somewhere...

You and I, both. There's a reason all those ant traps are out there. :P

I'm wondering how the strawberries are doing and seriously considering picking myself up one of those thyme plants. Mmmm.

I've watered them the last two days while watering the other plants I picked up. I ate the ripe strawberry I found yesterday, to test it of course. Yum. :

lower back pain

Mild mild stretching /really/ helps me. I need to do it more often. My problem is at the last vertebrae where it joins the hip.

1) Lay on stomach.
2) Raise your torso up so that you're leaning on your elbows/forearms. Or as far as you can go without it /hurting/. It'll pinch a little,b ut it shouldn't hurt.
3) hold for 20-30 seconds
4) Relax, lay back down on your stomach.
5) repeat 4 or 5 times.

My chiro teaches a class in stretching at the Y. :) This is the one he told me to do for my lower back. Maybe maybe it'll help for you.

Thanks I'll definitely try that. Another friend once suggested a somewhat similar move, you raise your hips off the floor, and start lowering your back a vertibrae at a time while exhaling. It tends to loosen stuff up a bit. Fortunately I know this is usually a pretty short term problem and that walking and icing it generally take care of the problem in short order. How people deal with this sort of pain every day is beyond me.

I think she was one of the few high points of the universally wretched "Fast and the Furious" as well if memory serves. But I have a thing for cute, tough little women *G*

Now that is one barter I'd happily engage in, what would you like a portrait of, yourself? If so I'd be delighted to have you sit for me. Just lemme know the details in email.
